I don't think celebrating a holiday is wrong unless it's inhumanitarian, which Halloween isn't.
You get people who use it as an excuse for mischief, but you get that with a lot of things and that doesn't make the holiday itself wrong.

I personally don't celebrate, but people can do as they see fit. It's not something I get worked up about.

Of course it's not wrong. If you don't want to celebrate it, fine, but there's nothing wrong with kids dressing up and getting free candy. It's just supposed to be fun. Besides, I think it's cool to have a holiday centered around the scary and macabre--all the holidays get so sugary sweet sometimes, it's nice to have something a bit different. And I realize the irony in that it's celebrated with sugary sweet candy

    What's wrong with Halloween?

    (Not rhetorical - I'm wondering.)

Some religious people believe that it's Satanic and reinforces beliefs in the Occult due to its pagan origins. That's one objection that I've heard, at least.

Neither. Right or wrong suggests morality. It certainly isn't immoral, but there is no moral duty to celebrate it either. It's just up to what individuals, and societies, want to do.

I'm afraid I don't understand the motivation for this question.

The fact that there's a need to discuss the morality of halloween is what seems wrong to me. (Nothing against OP, just in general). It's just a party and it has been just a party for a very long time.

    *Hem, hem!*

Halloween is not a statement or a position in an argument. It is a holiday. It cannot be "wrong".

Ok, now I'll also toss out that I'm a Witch, and Halloween is one of the central holidays of my year.

How would you feel if someone (say, someone who is Jewish, or Islamic, or atheist...or a Witch) posted to ask "In ur opinion, is Christmas right or wrong?" You might feel somewhat slighted, no? Even to have it suggested that a major holiday of yours might well be unacceptable to people generally? To have people's opinions solicited as if it should matter worth a damn what people think?

*shrugs* The only holiday around this time of year that I think is particularly wrong is Black Friday, and that's because I work retail :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I don't usually celebrate except for buying chocolate for any trick or treaters we might get, but I don't think it is wrong at all for others to celebrate, it is a time where a lot of people are happy and excited about dressing up and stuff so what is wrong with that?

My mom called me a Satanist for putting coloring in my hair around Halloween. She then proceeded to hold my head underwater to wash it out. Thanks Jesus.

I don't get your point, at least in quoting me...I never meant to imply that a Muslim, Jewish person, etc. would/should have a specific problem with any holiday.

But I'm glad you enjoy Halloween!

I don't see anything wrong with Halloween. Then again it's my favorite holiday so my opinion may be biased...

    It's wrong.

It's wrong to let kids have fun.
It's wrong to treat ourselves to candy.
It's wrong to have a reason, to have a party.
It's wrong to have a reason, to be with friends and/or family.
It's wrong to want to put up decorations, which provide interesting scenery.
It's wrong to want to watch any kind of film, to set the mood, and to have a good time.

But it's even more wrong, if you really believe any of the above. LOL!

Not that costumes have to have anything to do with Halloween celebrations...but there are *all kinds* of ways to represent yourself, and not all of them look how you look on any given day.
