So, I can pretty much create whatever sock accounts I want on some stupid email service like GMX, which doesn't have SMS challenges (so I don't have to prove I'm a real person, unlike with Google), and where they only care about the first 16 characters of your password, apparently. Then I go onto Tumblr and create some sock accounts with my other sock accounts (Yo Dawg), and then post whatever I want. So then I can pretend to be represent gender justice movements and say stuff like "die cis scum" so that then, later on, people will go around saying that "social justice warriors are terrible, because look at all this stuff they write on Tumblr." It'll be interesting to see how long I can keep those accounts up. Tumblr might do some analytics and remove them. The point is, I think a sophisticated fraudster could generate some "social justice warrior" posts using a Markov generator, throw some "die cis scum" in there, and you have evidence that "social justice warriors" are terrible.
I think what the OP is saying is that some people can create fake accounts on things like tumblr etc to verbally abuse someone and get away with it cause it's anonymous and not linked to anyone's personal account.. I hope I am reading this right anyway?
1. It's easy to create fake accounts on Tumblr. (I just did it, twice.) 2. You can pretty much say whatever you want on Tumblr. 3. You can fraudulently post extremist crap for a position you disagree with while pretending to be a proponent of that position. 4. You can then point to this on internet forums as evidence that people you disagree with are extremists. Basically, what all this means is that I get to make fun of you when you say "I hate philosophical position X, 'cuz Tumblr."
I miss the days on the internet when we had things like good debates and weren't bashing , seems like now we have cowards that hide behind a computer screen . :icon_sad:
Yes, I'm sure some people do make fake accounts, but unfortunately not easy to tell. I'm sure there are people that actually hold those "die cis scum" views as well.
I don't know about anyone else, but as a cis and white person, I never got offended by 'cis/white bashing' on Tumblr, and I also know that not all trans/black people are that way. The internet is a great way to let off steam and anger, and that's why some websites collect crazy people who vent about things they normally wouldn't say in real life. That's why for the most part, I don't take it seriously, use it to stereotype everyone in that group, or care.
Well, that will change soon enough. Some sites are doing this already........... You have to put in a credit or debit card number for "certification" of who you claim to be. This also gives them information, in case you get on a site to do such nasty things to other people.......they know where to send the police, or the Feds.
I'm agreeing with MintberryCrunch here; it's pretty hard to tell. Tumblr is basically a leftist, political correctness gone mad version of 4chan. There's some sane people there, but... the rest of its userbase is either a wretched hive of trolls or the most idiotic wave of radical feminism that the internet has ever seen, because Tumblr reached peak Poe's Law ages ago. Frankly, I don't know what to think. Are these people trolls or are they just really stupid? It could be both.
quote stormfront and see how many middle class bored teens will agree w/ u, unironically not in my america
I would sooner never use the internet again than give my credit card number to random websites merely to post on them - I doubt I'm alone either. They best be prepared to lose a lot of traffic. I'd rather keep the trolls if that's the solution...
