The question is simple, should we have state-funded faith schools?

I do however believe this question requires a tad more explanation, so I will proceed with that. By having state funded faith schools, it means that the state is allowing a religious group to indoctrinate children in a school, is this right, or wrong?

(also, just to clarify, despite having put a UK government link, that is simply to explain it and not referring to only UK schools)

Absolutely not. It is beyond unethical to allow this sort of thing.

As a current victim of one of these schools (yes, I'm using the word victim here), I can say with a passion that I absolutely hate them. State schools often have inadequate education (though being in a comprehensive doesn't help) and having a religion forced down my throat almost (especially at primary school, when they actually convinced me and my behaviour back then scares the current me) for all my education, it doesn't help.
When a school like mine says it's faith is at the core of its education, I run.

Its ridiculous that the state would want faith schools, let alone to pay for them.

In my opinion all these free schools and academies should be taken back under local Government control as these schools have become targets of Islamic extremists (as seen in Birmingham), and are used as de facto faith schools without the extra regulation that is imposed on faith schools.

Never. I am a strong supporter of separation of church and state, so this is a bad idea.

I'm not nearly as against private religious schools as they are entirely optional, but they should at least be closely monitored so they meet state education requirements.

I like the church and state being separate.

Nope. I believe in the separation of church and state. No favoritism, no tax free statuses, etc. If a school's getting tax money, it better damn well be secular.

Me too. I'd rather have them as private schools. =)

    Yes.

    ...

I mean, no, no, no! Definitely no. Even faith schools that don't breed extremism tend not to teach science properly, and by definition they indoctrinate children into a religion that they can't easily make up their own mind about.

    No.

However: if a religious school is state-funded, it may be possible to exert more 'control' over what is taught in it than if it is completely independent.

No, I honestly don't believe it would be a good idea at all.. Generally speaking, a state is public and serve the public of their state, so I don't see why it would be appropriate to have a state funded faith school.. It is just a little mind boggling.
