Why are gay people sometimes sexist?

    Something that has confused me.

Before my boyfriend quit his job, his boss was typically a kind person. At one point however, after a disagreement with a female employee, he smashed things and screamed "All women are ****ing c*nts", and the like .

Another local business owner, who was infamously gay, hated women, and when they were hired treated them like dirt. Many came to the place I work, and I've heard a lot of terrible stories.

And those are just the famous local ones, I've met a lot of people over the internet, and in person, who are gay and have this huge disdain for the opposite gender. :eusa_doh:

Is it just that they feel like they're competing? Some sort of sexism? I don't understand. It's so prevalent that I'm starting to feel like it might be a 'gay' thing with the older generation, where I typically see it.

    I'm confused :frowning2:

Oh man, it's not even just gay guys. I can't even count on my fingers the number of times I've heard an FTM guy mock women, call them "bitches", etc. My boyfriend's thankfully former roommate would always chuckle about how he wanted to "fuck that bitch".

    It was pretty fucking appalling.

Maybe it's a variety of things in both our cases. Either the individual wants to disassociate from women (because as a gay male, lot of people treat you like you're "a woman", and as a trans guy regardless of orientation, you have to deal with still being mistaken for a woman) or it's a desire to fit in as "one of the guys".

Variety of reasons I'm sure; for some gay people It's lashing out against the pressure of having to be with the opposite sex (in my experience)

That's kind of where my dislike for certain males comes from. Plus lots of guys think from one look I want them. Male ego is a huge turnoff for a fem Lesbian  But yeah I think some gay people do have insecurity issues like me for example.. and that's why they lash out I guess. I personally haven't lashed out at a guy but I do have intense dislike towards the average cocky straight male. For good reason too. Feminism IS still needed in the world.

It's just sad.. some find out i'm a Lesbian and start acting like children by saying they can change me. It's not possible i've liked girls since I was little.

    I'm feeling this.

I don't know why a gay person would be sexist. I love women! I love all genders.

Well, I don't literally love women... I actually love men. Err, you know what I mean, right? I've confused myself.

Honestly, I find it pretty embarrassing. It reinforces the stereotype that gay people are gay because they had "no luck with the opposite sex", so now they're lashing out against it.

What's so confusing? Straight men are sometimes sexist. Women are sometimes sexist. Lesbians are sometimes sexist. Often in anger people resort to petty name calling and use stereotypes to belittle a person, which would explain the first one. The second one would maybe be explained in terms of "some men happen to be gay" -- meaning all types of men happen to be gay... Racist men, sexist men, any type of man can happen to be gay. Honestly don't get how you're confused why SOME gay people are sexist... Unless it's a confusion of why some men (and women) are sexist in general.

Because queerness is not an automatic cure for social ills such as power imbalances, discrimination and internalised hatred and stigmatisation.

There are also people who seem to want to take their frustration out with their sexuality taking away social advantages by being reactionary pricks.

People are very capable of hate. We can take it to illogical levels.

Almost always it's because were they not gay, that person would have a position of privilege. This is why, IMO, "WASP" men would be the most likely to be sexist. Fundamentally, sexism is a learned behavior just like homophobia, so it takes self-awareness and empathy to others' suffering to recognize it.
