Wouldn't it be cool if we could create a symbol/signal/sign/something else that would allow each of us to distinguish between ourselves? Like, if you're like me who has the worst gaydar ever, you could just use this symbol to show you're gay/bi etc.

Oh my God I thought about this this other day. It would be so useful. I always imagined some sort of aura or smell that only we could identify in each other.

If we told you the secret symbol, it wouldn't be a secret anymore, would it? Kidding. But the problem is that there are truly no self-confined LGBT conclaves. If a symbol were figured out, it would out yourself to the world. Maybe it would be good for those fully out, but it could be intimidating to those part way out of the closet.

I see your point biguy, but in retrospect, who in their right mind is gonna seek out an LGBT identifying signal and use it to humiliate people? Like realistically speaking

    Haha, smell?

Like this symbol has to be extremely exclusive, like can't even post it here. And has to be like a secret, complicated code.

I think something common enough (so someone would not care about), but with a twist (a small twist) that only people who know about it will look for (I feel so sly now :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: )

I think it would be awesome if the gayer you were, the more curly your natural hair was. Leaves no room for non-binaries, though. Still think it would be handy.

True, but if the symbol were subtle enough and you got called out on it, you could pass it off as accidental and that you had no idea what you were doing.

A nonchalant hand signal that looks like it could be plausibly natural sounds like a good bet. If the person returns the signal, you know it's safe. Unless of course they do it to draw you into a false sense of security, and THEN call you out. But that would be just plain creepy and would probably not work out well for them either.

Yeah, but like someone mentioned, that's assuming that people are going to be actively searching for other people that have that symbol.

If it's subtle enough that could pass off as accidental, it's easy enough for me to miss it or second-guess whether a guy truly did it intentionally.

Then, you have a second signal to confirm the first (nudge nudge wink wink).

Reading through this and thinking... obvious, rainbow bracelet? Wait wut?!

    *proceeds to copyright the idea*

We don't need symbols to identify ourselves, we just need to learn how to read the ones heterosexuals already have.

I guess that could work. I just think for all that trouble I could just use an app to find bi/gay men near me, which is a much more reliable and discreet (if secrecy is what you are looking for) way in my opinion.

Yeah, it would be, but that would be the same with someone looking for a person's relationship status through a ring. I mean I don't go looking at people's ring finger unless I want to know whether that person's married or not.

As Penny from The Big Bang Theory said, "Ugh, that sounds like a lot of work." I'm just curiously and idly wondering of a sure-fire symbol, that's all.

The interesting thing to me is that Google, Facebook, EC, MySpace, the NSA, FBI, and about 3000 multinational corporations have already figured out that you are gay before you did, by what you do and look at online. We just need a way to look a stranger up in their databases on the fly.

That is VERY true, I know I would have came out to some people at Google by Googling some not-to-be-mentioned searches.......:icon_wink

^I'm not going to be kicked out by saying that, right?.......:eusa_doh:

Yes, I am the lion who got the heart

Which is kinda true for everybody who is in/out of the closet, we will gain/gain the courage to come out (feeling philosophical)
