We'll, we're officially married!

So today, it happened, and I married my partner of 24 years. I guess you could say we both feel happy, and also relieved things went well. Had a basic court ceremony, dinner with family and friends, not a huge production, but still, enough to make a person a tad anxious. I suggest a small wedding, personally...less stress!

But it's hard to believe. When we met, and in the 1990s, I NEVER thought gay marriage would ever be legal in so many states, or even in any states. But we still have much work to do, and I'll continue to fight for the right of people to marry in all 50 states.

My folks came, and acted as our official witnesses, which I thought was really sweet. Initially, my mom had a bit of a shock when I came out, but has come to be very accepting, and also, very much likes my partner. She always tells me I managed to pick somebody sane, as my family has this tendency to marry people who go crazy, and then they quickly divorce. The stories I could tell about crazy in-laws...crazier than me even.

Well, so it can happen. I had years I never thought I'd find a lasting love, from about 15 to 22, and even at first, I wasn't sure. And then it gradually developed, and here we are. We met at a major university, and I will have to say that going away to college was a magical thing, for which I am grateful; I encourage anyone who has pondered the idea, to go, explore, see the world, study, have fun, and meet people, as one may not get such a big chance again. Or, one might, but I very much would send my kids to college, it I had any, and could.
