I know studies are conducted to answer this question but i found the results often questionable. A rate of 1,5 percent seems low to me, while other nations show a percentage between 5 a 6 percent, or even higher...first of all, it is unlikely that those number differ in reality, or there must be something in the water...i think its more a reflection of tolerance to gay people in that nation. I know something has to do with the way the studie is conducted also, but what do you think! How many gay people are there?
Let's just saaay I don't think it's a coincidence that a primary christian nation has such a low percentage of declared homosexuals...
But a nation as australia...1,5 percent. Seems very low for a secular western country. Or is it possible?
My bad, since you didn't specify the nation I defaulted to 'Murica (derp). I'm compeltely ignorant of the religious/socioeconomical/political landscape in Australia so I will sit this one out and let someone like Aussie792 handle this.
This is probably true. Or at least people in the LGBT rainbow. ---------- Post added 11th Dec 2014 at 07:02 PM ---------- One gay, two gay, three gays. Ah ah ahhhh.
You really must take into account that ABS statistics (the only actually comprehensive statistics in Australia) do not take into account sexuality in the census; they count same-sex couples. We need to make note that a) the first generation that could be described as having a majority of genuine support for the LGB (perhaps not yet T) community is not yet of marriageable age or prepared to commit to partnerships that involve living together and reporting as such in the census and b) even assuming that everyone in the major cities is free to come out and express their sexuality (again, take into account the lack of the official counting of single people and youth), there are still relatively large numbers of smaller towns and outer suburbs with less open values. And, of course, the roughly 3-5% living in outback communities are unlikely to feel free to express themselves at all. There are other factors, but it's likely that each new census will likely increase that number as Australia grows more liberal to being queer (especially with the deaths of the most conservative elderly occurring in the next few decades), as development of society and infrastructure in the less populated areas of the country occurs and helps liberalise them and as today's youth will be more accurately counted in the census. Living in Canberra, I wouldn't be surprised if the rate came out as 6-10%; there are a hell of a lot of us, especially young ones.
That number seems really high...I doubt it's that many. Of course, with many less accepting places around the world, it's hard to get any accurate number.
It's exactly 700,000,000 not 6,999,999 not 700,000,001 not 7,000,000,000 nope exactly 700,000,000 without a doubt
