Default The Thumb Theory

Well all this began a couple of weeks ago when I read somewhere that they could clearly state that a man was gay, because in his picture he had his hands on his waist and his thumbs were pointing backwards.
Now, according to this theory, contrary to popular belief the "hands on waist" posture is not always gay. Apparently the direction of the thumbs serves as an indicator for someone's sexuality.

Eager to test the theory I began to observe men who put hands on their waste to see if there was any connection between their thumbs and any other indicator of their sexuality. Well... the experiment fails at many levels, see, not many guys put their hands on their hips/waist.

The main problem is, however, that so far all the subjects that have put their hands on their hips have done so with their thumbs pointing inwards (backwards) and so far no one with thumbs pointing front. Actually I think I'm the only one. I tend to put my hands in my pockets so that my thumbs are pointing outwards (and I manage to put my thumbs through my front belt loops xD)

Anyway I only observed guys in my classes so my "specimen" are really limited so, what about you? have you ever heard / proved this theory? Have you observed a connection between thumb direction and sexuality? Share please?

I find it extremely uncomfortable to put my thumbs to the front. But I don't really know other than that.

I don't think this could ever work very well... It is more comfortable for nearly everyone (there are always exceptions) for people to put their thumbs back...

Still I think it is harder to put your thumbs to the front but what about not backwards? you know like pointing upwards when you put your hands on your hips. Upwards seems much more reasonable that pointing front

Whenever I do the "hands on hips" pose (which isn't often), I do a variation where I stick my thumbs in the "far corners" of the pockets of my jeans. Then my hands hang down in a loose fist from there. I don't know what that means, other than I wear jeans a lot.

I either put my thumbs in my back pockets or in my front pockets with my thumbs facing the front.

My thumbs tend to point forward when they're on my hips/waist. Though I usually don't put them on my waist....

When I put my hands on my hip (well, a bit lower than the hip...) my thumbs always point backwards and the other 4 fingers are kinda spread apart pointing forward. But sometimes I just hook my thumbs in my jean pockets and let the fingers just hang out pointing down... the thumb kinda points forward there.

As soon as I wear a pair of pants that do not have pockets, I get flustered, putting either my hand without my thumb or my thumb without my hand ( does that make sense,I'm tired...) in my front pockets is such a habit...

I think this theory shouldn't be taken so literally, but also not put aside.

When I was doing work experience with a physio, I was sitting in on an exercise rehab class and part of it was making a fist fists and clasps etc.

I can't remember what it was exactly but when instructed to clasp hands, the teacher pointed out to me that most females have their left thumb on the outside and most male had their right thumb on the outside. 'Apparently' most homosexual people tent to reverse the thumb trend.

I found the idea rather farfetched and a really big generalisation, and then when I was doing our daily yoga class at school, we were instructed to make the same position, where i noticed that the theory seemed so far, correct.

And yes, my left thumb is a lot more comfortable on the outside.

Uh oh, I put my left thumb on top. Maybe because I'm left handed?
