So, I've been listening to music a lot. In my free time that is. What is music to you? To me, music is an escape from reality. I can let myself get lost in the lyrics, and away from the issues of life.
Given the option I am always listening to music and if I can't listen to music then I'm singing in my head. But the songs and the reason I listen to them changes. Right now, I'm pumped about the holidays and I'm full of nervous energy because I hate flying so I'm listening to like house and pop, good dance music (and Christmas music). In another circumstance I might listen to the same stuff to try to cheer me up though.
It's a million different things to a million different people... That's the beauty of it! It can be different things to me depending on the situation. It can be sad when I am, it can be happy and cheer me up, it can celebrate with me during something great, it can be the soundtrack to a memory, and it's a form of self expression when I am creating it! I love music!
Music enhances life. I saw a comment on a YouTube video of Hard Trance music which said something like 'omg washing dishes has never been so epic!!!!' and well, I agree. I think I also achieve catharsis through listening to aggressive songs.
My comfort, my motivator, my outlet, a way of expressing how I feel. Oh and when memories are brought back by a song, especially when the song randomly comes up in a playlist.
A creative way to release all the stress, angst, and negative feelings out of my body and have those feelings replaced with happy, harmonic, and positive ones.
A simple distraction which occasionally has the added benefit of actually invoking some kind of emotion in me. Something to distract me, so that I don't constantly think about life.
To me it's listening to songs that reflect my mood at the moment I'm listening to them at the moment it's any other world by mika

Invigorating, comforting, inspiring, motivating, calming. It can pull me out of a bad mood or make me think deeper. In short just about everything. WHICH IS WHY I'M SO PISSED OFF THAT ONE EAR ON MY HEADPHONES ISN'T WORKING!!! :tantrum:
A whole number of reasons really. Mood, comfort, relaxation, upset. Yeah, I feel it's my moods that enhance when I listen to music lol So it's a big thing for me.
i find it a soother, a liberating thing and if the song hits the right notes in my spirit an afformation.
It's an enhancement to anything I could do. I could do push-ups, without music, and that's fine. But with music, it feels encouraging. I could draw a picture, without music, and that's fine. But with music, it feels inspiring. I could mentally prepare myself for something, without music, and that's fine. But with music, it feels epic. Music appeals to the senses, our emotions, even our thoughts and dreams. How it triggers these and brings them out, is quite remarkable. It can make the happy happier, the frightening more so, and the sad sadder. It coats a moment and stirs the soul, making life a little more interesting, as well as, even if just for a few moments, seeming a little more deeper. Of course, music does have a darker side. In the wrong hands, it is a subliminal and even propagandist tool. But the fact it can be used to sway the masses, or consult the individual, is a testament to the power of music. A collection of sounds that, when put together, trigger various sentiments and sensations. When it's all said and done, life without music is rather dreary -- kind of like my penchant for bad jokes.
