So... I have a touchy topic! Well... I just turned 18 and I'm voting in this years election. I was at rehearsal today and I was sporting my Obama and Biden pin. This guy walks up to me and starts spouting off about how he hates Obama. That's fine, that's his opinion. UNTILL! He states that I'm voting for Obama b/c he's black and I'm black. He said " Your only voting for him because he's black, that's why all the black people are voting for him. It's all about race." I was in utter shock.

First off, I think that is complete bullshit! That's not why I'm going to vote for him. Yes, I am aware of that some black people are going to vote for Obama b/c he's black, and there's some white people who are going to vote for McCain b/c he's white. I know people who do that and I think that is fucking bullshit!. And A weak move. I'm not one of those people who vote off of race.

I told him "There are some white people who don’t want Obama in office b/c he is black. And what you just stated shows that you are making it about race."

I just don’t get people. We were talking about the election not the race and he brought the race card out. Also I said "Well, your voting for McCain, I can say your voting for him b/c he's white." It just shows me how people are in this world. I'm backing someone black so, since I'm black I'll stick with that. GOD!!! It makes me angry.

So just wanted to know do any of you fill the same way?? Or do you think its bullshit, like me? What's ur thoughts???

I know how you feel but that's just how a lot of people think regarding that issue. It is very unfortunate. I read an article the other day where it said that on Election day many people might not vote for Obama because he's African American.

I guess all you can do is just ignore those people.

I hate racism. Bottom line, anyone who says you're voting for Obama because you're black can't see past the depth of your skin. You are a infinitely more complex person than just "a black guy," and anyone who is racist is simply blind to that fact. I'm sorry to hear that you have to deal with that, but there's not much you can do about it. Try your best to ignore it, brush it off. Fighting them will only fuel their blind hatred.

White guy who would vote for Obama here. There are plenty of black conservatives who would vote for McCain, and loads of white people who prefer Obama. There are some serious racists on both sides who refuse to vote for the other candidate because of race, but it's not as huge an issue as everyone thought it would be.

Even if some black people vote for him because he is black , where is the problem. Catholic like me voted for Virginia Governor because he is a caholic. I like Obama , I like his issues and if I was Black I would be proud . Make no mistake I am still proud for Obama and the African American community. I cant wait next month!

There's always going to be ignorant people, just let them be stupid. I don't know if you've seen the video, but there this guy asking some McCain/Palin supporters some questions, and this one lady kept on saying "OBAMA'S A TERRORIST" and "O-BAMA, WHERE HAVE YOU HEARD THAT BEFORE?" she was obviously implying that Obama is terrorist because his name is relatively close to "Osama"... some people...

I agree with you. Obviously if you vote for someone the same race as you it's not necessarily about race. That guy just has some problems.

Question - Why does everyone refer to Obama as black? Surely he's mixed race... as much a black man as a white man? Or am I missing something?
