I'm not great at gift wrapping, but I make the effort. Do you?

Many people seem to place gifts in a bag or box now, but I personally like to open a fully wrapped gift. What about you?
I hope my partner gift wraps the sports car (that I won't be getting).

Yeah, I like to giftwrap. It comes with a long pedigree of customs and traditions. The Japanese have it down to an art.

I find that this ties in with my adherence to the principle of sublimation. By misdirecting the goal of getting the gift, the wrapping adds to the pleasure of receiving it, it sublimates the mundane experience of just being given something, to the realm of symbols and meanings associated with the package as delivered.

It's a beautiful thing to do, and even better when a little thought is put into it.

I love gift wrapping and like to put a fair amount of thought into it And I love to see a tree with a lot of brightly wrapped gifts under it. I'm rather good at wrapping but I know it's pretty difficult for a lot of people. I remember when I used to manage a bookstore one of my greatest challenges was trying to teach 19/20 year old boys to wrap a gift correctly or just decently. I don't mean to be sexist but the girls always either knew how or picked it up really quickly but the boys, especially the straight ones, oh it was awful...

It's been seven years after this Christmas since I gave a Christmas gift. (Wow! It's been that long?!?) But, thinking back, I am pretty sure I wrapped gifts almost all the time. Any other approach would have been rare.

Gift bags have a place, I suppose, and are possibly a good way to handle certain types of gifts. Say, if one is taking a bottle of wine as a host or hostess gift. And I suppose if one has lots of gifts under a tree, some variety is good.

I am not very good at gift wrapping, but I've gotten better over the years.

Years back, my big quirk was making bows. Not for all gifts, but important gifts were likely to have a bow made by me, and I often made it as big as I could.

I think I also made gift wrap at least once, but can't remember for sure.

Sigh...here's to hoping I have someone in my life to give gifts to again someday...

  7. I'm so bad at gift wrapping, it looks like a 5 year old did it. But, it's endearing to a lot of the people I know/give gifts too.

I assume by "box" you mean those boxes that have a gift wrap pattern printed on them. Those frankly look either lazy, or like the recipient just doesn't matter enough to bother doing it right. Although, again, I suppose there may be a time and place...

Another thing I've been known to do is use children's Santa stockings for informal gifts. One year I shoved a hostess gift bottle of wine into one. (Now as I think of it, it was a contrast: adult beverage in a sock intended to hold candy for the under 10 set! :lol:slight_smile:

Stores here have--or have had--gift wrapping services. But that is something I've never, ever done. While I can't say I'd never do it, even if I were super busy, I'd make an effort to wrap at least the most important gifts myself.

I'm really bad at it, but I always use gift wrap instead of boxes or bags. I have cute penguin wrapping paper too, so I like to use it.

Yes I do. Bags are so lazy. My mom taught me how to wrap presents well. Ever since then, I've been quite good at it

I am OK at gift wrapping.

Here is a gift my dad was gonna give to a coworker and asked to to gift wrap. Mind you, it was done at 2 AM . I didn't have a bow so I got some metallic ribbon and made a "bow."

I like wrapping stuff. I wrap the gift about a week before Christmas and put it under the tree so future reciever of said gift can stare at it in wonder for a few days.
Then I can proceed to laugh all evil-like.

Yep. I hate doing it, but I figure a couple of hours a year isn't so bad. I'm pretty meticulous about it too; if it doesn't come out with nice clean edges I re-do it.

Yup. I actually enjoy making wrapped gifts look as pretty as possible. I even made the effort of creating a box out of cardboard just to fit a gift to a decent size.

Here's a few gifts I've wrapped. (I crossed out the names)

    Yup
I don't know....there's just something about the whole process. I start off by trying my best to wrap the gift (which takes about 6 minutes or more lol, I'm quite terrible at it and use tons of tape), and I make it aesthetically awesome to match the holiday with a cute little bow and tag/sticker with the person's name on it and then I just sit back with a satisfied grin as I watch my giftee struggle to open their present.

It fills me with joy. *cackles evilly*

It depends on the gift. I bought my mother a subscription to her favourite magazine and she's happy enough with that. No wrapping required. Otherwise, I like to wrap most gifts and I'm good at it. I find it super easy. It will almost look like a machine performed the job! And yet I can't even hold a pencil correctly.
