It's all subjective, but how many years does something have to be considered old? For people? Music? Movies? Clothes and other possessions?

    Interesting question...

I look back on my 54 years and I wonder at how things have changed, and yet I never noticed as these things changed, so gradual is the process!

I think that what people used to call a "generation" say, 25 years or so, is a good way to determine when something reaches the threshold of "old", when all the issues that seemed important no longer are. This goes for personal things all the way to national and international events.

I would say after having grandchildren. I don't consider my parents to be old due to the fact that they get a lot of the references that you and I would get. They know about Youtube, Twitter, bae, etc.

My grandparents, ages 92,85, and 73 respectively, don't know at least half of these, thus I'd consider them to be old. They have grandchildren and are disconnected from the current generation.

    If you're over 25, you're old.

Dunno. When I was 5, I thought 20 was old.

For music I have a tendency to say anything about 4 or 5 years ago.

Movies I usually think 90's or before.

My possessions vary as far as what point I consider them old.

People I'd say 50 or over.

2 years for songs bc music gets old fast these days clothes 10 years because baggy jeans were big. Than around 2008 skinny jeans became popular and still are. And for movies 15-20 years I guess.

For people "old" interestingly shifts as YOU get older. I remember calling someone that was 30 old when I was 18, so there you go.

Clothes are old after a year, btu that doesnt necessairly mean out of fashion. Trendy crap would be different. Music? I would say 30 to 50 years is when music starts to become simply a reflection of an era rather than something that most people would enjoy. I've cultivated love Big Band era music but many times I dont understand it.

My other stuff I replace fairly frequently, but then again I dont have a lot of "stuff" anymore.

People: Old enough to have grandchildren sounds right to me. My parents don't quite have grandchildren yet but it would have been possible by now and they're pretty old.

Movies/Music: Around 50 years old. People in their 60's now would have been watching those movies/listening to that music when they were teenagers.

Video Games: Anything from the 4th Generation (Super Nintendo) and earlier. Basically, any video game that was made before I started playing them. I'd probably have said ones that are around 50 years old like movies and music, but video games haven't been around that long. I feel like the first of anything will always feel old unless it's brand new.

Edit: Reading these posts, I think at some point in your life you go from "[my age]+X is old" to simply "Y is old".

My mother turned 49 today and has two children - oldest being 28. She could have been a grandmother at 34, if my sister conceived at 13.

/thread: And I'm just going by what other people are saying here...

Age - Depends on the person

    Movies/TV Shows/Anime ec... - Everything before 2005

    Music - Everything before 2012

    Games - Everything before 2008

    Clothes - Everything before 2002

By the way, on the matter of clothes. I have to say that back then, there were some pretty unique stuff, that you don't get to see today.

You're always going to be old to someone who's younger than you and young to those who are older than you.

My grandmother still looks at my parents and tells them how young they are to her.

Age - That's an interesting one. Age is subjective. I'd say people in their early 20s and less are young. I am 27 now and dread the big 30. I cringe at the immaturity even 5 years ago. I'd say old enough to be a grandparent is 'old'. Maybe 40s and up.

Movies - More than ten years I'd say. Even films that came out in the early 00s, such as Shrek, Finding Nemo etc, I'd consider as coming from a different time, as so much can change in a decade.

    Music - Same as movies

Games - I have PS1 and PS2 games which I consider 'old', a Wii which I had in 2009 is the newest concole I have. I even have a Pikachu Nintendo 64 from 15 years ago. So I'd say anything that is later than anything I play is 'new'.

Clothes - More than a decade old.

People, 40's can be considered "older"

    Anything else, a decade

And keep in mind, old doesn't mean bad

For simplicity, I consider anything before I was born as old. I was born in 1986.

However, I much prefer the term "experienced".

I love people that refuse to grow old! The older I get the higher the "old" age gets pushed. I remember being 15-20 thinking 30 was old. Now that I'm 34, I realize I don't feel old at all.

I view movies from the 90's as old now. Music is quite a bit further back, 50's or so.
