Well... It's probably a common thing for anyone who goes to school. I think everyone who has gone to school and had at least one of them thrown their way, so, I was wondering, how do you react to them? I usually either say 'so what if I was?' Or don't say anything, but now I've come to terms with my orientation, I kind of what to say 'yeah, so what' but it'd be coming out to the school and I would die... Anyway, how do you react?

    Own it.

Actually this one guy told me since my Freshman year that I "took in the butt". My response one time was "Only from you baby."

He never stopped. But I always took it well.

I recall a while ago at uni when somebody said it to me whilst I was tipsy, and my reply was something along the lines of "If you think that's gay, you should see how I have sex". I'm a big fan of using sarcasm and humour to quash stupidity. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It happened so often in high school that it was eye-roll worthy.

My friend said last night just joking around "why are you so gay" and my comeback was "why are you so straight"

    Good times ha ha

I just shrug it off. Their bigotry is their problem, not mine.

I didn't know that was an insult. I'd just say "and?"

I'd just not give a fuck. Although the insults are never as tame as a simple "You're gay" (which is more of a fact than an insult), it's surprisingly easy to just keep your head down and not acknowledge them.

    I always so this

"Omg you say that like it's such a bad thing ."

    or
    "you're right I'm gay I"m a very happy person indeed ."

    another is
"How did you know I was happy today ?":icon_bigg

cheesy but I like saying one of these

I think sometimes just saying " Why thank you " could mess them up and take the joke out of it for them .

Friends used to say this jokingly in high school. I laughed it off, didn't bother me at the time. When I came out as gay, they stopped doing it. I didn't even ask them to - they just stopped.

I was walking down the street with a friend of mine when someone yelled HOMO! after him. He turned around and said Yes? and when the guy didn't say anything back he said You were talking to me, right?

The guy who was attempting to insult him was so shocked at his reaction, the look on his face was priceless. I doubt he ever yelled that after anyone ever again.

No one's ever called me gay as an insult. If they do, I'll probably say "Gay is not an insult," or "So what?"

I usually call people out on being homophobic when it happens.

Somebody once simply said "queer" to me on YouTube on my channel page. I set it on approval and I can't remember if I approved it or not, but I do know I didn't respond.
If somebody did that to me in person, I wouldn't take it as an insult at all. I don't thing I'd respond at all and if I did I would make sure they knew that I really was gay. Sapphire had a good idea with "I know that". Maybe later on I'd yell "You're straight!" as an insult to them.

If that's the worst thing you can say about me, that means I am not that bad

I guess it all depends on how you view your own sexuality.

I haven't been told that in a really long time. When it first occurred, it hurt. Then, it became a daily occurrence and it hurt even more. I was a very sensitive child. Now, I doubt I would even care. If anything, I get more offended if family members ask. Regardless, I've learned that it is always best to keep your anger and offense inside. People who say things like this are looking for a rise and if you give it to them, then they've got power over you.

I respond, "Is that a bad thing?"
