The world is progressing. I'm sure there are many transgender folks in their 50's and 60's who wish they would of had an ounce of the support and acceptance these kids are getting. http://www.philly.com/inquirer/magazine/20081020_Teens_in_transition.html?page=1&c=y
That nearly made me cry. ;---; I wish I had realized that early, then maybe I would've been able to say something.
That was a very interesting and enlightening article...Thanks Becky (once again) for bringing it to our attention
I have a friend,Robin, who is transgendered. She's in her 40's now,but she came out as female (MtF,obviously) at the age of 14. This was in 1978! I met her as Robbie,a supposed male. She hadn't started to transistion, yet. Let me tell you,I thought of her as female before she ever came out. If anyone was born in the wrong body,it was her! She was harassed out of school, they made her stand in the boy's line to graduate 8th grade. People were commenting on why that girl was with the boys. Others were just rude. She quit school, that same day. Between the ages of 14-19,she was beaten up,several times, called fagot and just generally harassed. I,myself, got into a fight for defending her. ( I kicked ass!) Finally,at the age of 19,she had her surgery. She finished school (G.E.D.),went on to college and now works at in a high paying executive job. The reason I told this story is,NEVER give up,no matter if you're Gay,bi, or transgendered. The fight is worth it. If you're still young, don't worry. You will grow and hopefully so will the people you love. Thank you,Becky, for sending this link. You are such a great help and inspiration to the others here. The world needs more like you. Mickey**
Ty is a very lucky person, as I'm sure he well knows. I wish that his experiences were the rule for trans individuals, but they are still the exception.
