Is/was anyone ever excited when they realized they were or might not be straight? Or is that rare/odd?

I almost *wanted* to not be straight because it's different. Then I realized that maybe I'm not straight and I didn't want that either... Now I sort of flip flop between being excited and dreading it slightly. Mostly just explaining to other people.

However, I'm attracted to men and women, so I guess that makes it easier in some ways? I get more options?

    I wouldn't suspect so.

I can't say I was excited about being gay but I'm most certainly not upset by it. I know some people wish they were straight but I'm glad to be who I am

This may not be exactly what you asked but...

I'll admit there is a sense of pride to be a part of the LGBT community. To be a minority. Even with it's disadvantages.

As a whole. I feel being trans does have it's advantages. It gives me more knowledge that I otherwise wouldn't have. I would probably be a lot more ignorant. I know I would be actually. (still accepting, but not understanding) And I do feel like I have been gaining a lot more courage since I came out as trans as well.

Still, I do wish I were cisgender. Oh well.

I was excited honestly. Then it fully set in the implications of what being not-straight would entail and like how my life would change

    That's when the excitement died.
I'm happy though, the people of met and the feeling of community has been nice

I was quite nervous and in denial, because I was a stupid 11 year old at the time, but now I am so happy with who I am. I love being out of the "normal" people... lol

I'm more comfortable than excited about my bisexuality. Although I was pretty excited at first when I accepted it because that felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

I had no problem with it when I was a kid, then felt as if it threatened my masculinity, so, there was denial and wanting to be straight. I was also thinking it was an unlikely possibility because most people are straight and I thought I should be as well. I needed to be certain.

Another fear that encouraged my denial was wondering if it was just another kink. Although I will admit that sometimes the more people say something is wrong, the more I want to do it. That reminds me. A comedian said the only real compelling reason to disagree with gay marriage was because legalising it would make homosexuality seem less exciting.

Can't say I was excited, but I accepted it, and felt good about it...

Well, when I found out my 'first' label (bisexual), I was happy/excited, because I felt closer to who I was. And recently, I found out that gay describes me better, and again, I was (and am) very happy with that, because I feel closer to myself now. :icon_bigg

I'm very excited because I'm transgender and gay! I think it's mainly because I finally am comfortable with my body and with my transidentity. Instead of dreading my past I have come to cherish it, I am thankful to the experiences, self-development and understanding of the world it has given me. If I really had been born a cisguy, which was my strongest wish many years, I'm afraid I would be quite ignorant. And I'm also excited because my transition is finally OVER! AND I'm excited because as an open transman and open gay I can finally be my true self, be myself 100%.

It's less that being queer is inherently exciting (though we really should strive to make the best of the boundaries we're often freed from) than it is that you realise that you can actually truly enjoy sex and love and that you can finally understand yourself.

To know who you are and what you like is exciting after that feeling of malaise over your inability to really fit in with exactly what's expected.

I was excited at first about my bisexuality but now for some reason I am in denial but I know for a fact that I am so not straight and I just need to go with the flow

When I first admitted to myself that I was trans*, I was pretty excited. I hadn't felt like that for a long time.

It's kind of weird how some have said they were excited to be out of the norm when what we really want is to be seen as normal. Hmm.

Anyway.. Was I excited? At first no, but after a while yes, especially when I came out to everyone and could be myself.
