Default Decriminalization of marijuana

Do you think they should decriminalize marijuana? Why or why not?

Yes !!
It's 100x better and safer that alcohol, it has so many different medical purposes, very few serious long term side affects. It has so many uses, hemp can make plastic, fuel, fabric, etc. It's a 100% natural plant.
Total number of deaths caused by marijuana : 0

Marijuana is a gateway drug, and no I'm not just saying that because I learned it in school.

^ ^ ^ Well, yeah of course, but it depends... it's like alcohol, smoking and sex; there should be more education and orientation about it.

No...
It causes the growth of breasts and penis shrinkage in men

I'd rather not live in a world of large-breasted and small-penised men

Actually, the studies are totally against you on that point. Marijuana is no more of a gateway drug than is tobacco or is alcohol, and the numbers back that up.

Personally, I favor the total legalization of marijuana. Although its use does impair motor skills, people operating motor vehicles under its influence would fall under existing DUI laws and could be penalized in much the same way. It's considerably harder to smoke enough to give you pot poisoning, whereas it's pretty easy to get yourself in a stomach-being-pumped scenario with booze. It would stimulate the economy through increased junk food sales. And, it would free up law enforcement resources to go after real crimes and would free up jail space to house real criminals.

Alcohol kills lots of people every day, weed doesn't kill anyone.
It's not a gateway drug, I've been smoking for like 5 years I still would never do any other drugs I think other drugs are dumb.

If it was legalized and taxed and stop putting people in jail for it, the government could make a LOT of money that way and not have to waste so much on enforcing it.

In some states in the USA its already decriminalized like where I live, and by that It means you don't get arrested and go to jail for it you just get fined. Which is good because I have got caught a few times haha.

I beg to differ

And marijuana can ba a gateway drug but only because it's illegal and fun so some people may want to try the other illegal stuff to see how fun it is.

I had to write an essay on this subject for my science coursework, I rocked it XD

I say yes, purely because of the natural medicinal properties. My uncle used it in the months leading up to his death, it served as a much needed muscle relaxant and pain relief, and purely based on that facr, I say yes.

But then people would try and legalize other drugs and stuff.
And I think pot just messes everything up for you in the end;; I've seen it happen.

Well in any case, I say yes.
It would stimulate the economy.... We kinda need that.
It would create less violence. Not by much, but people can get hurt buying weed.
It's fun...(...)
And it would probably be cheaper than it is right now. So I'm all for it.

I say yes, it should be legalized. All other drugs should still be illegal, but i think people will probably buy other stuff a bit less if they can get a high off pot and not have to buy it illegally.
I just say yes, it's better for you in the long run than alchohol i think.

no. I know it is actually reasonably harmless, but I have seen it ruin the life of one of my best friends. For medical purposes, of course. In general, I have to say no.

Ok so apparently (almost) everyone agrees but I still feel like posting this song.
Yes, I know roots/ragga/reggae music has hundreds of song promoting weed but this one is pretty good.

Macka B -- Legalize the Herb
Lyrics

Ok, so that's 4 posts in the 'Legalize Marijuana' thread, does that make me a pot-head?

Meh, I don't mind; even if it was legalised. I wouldn't do it. My mom has threatened to disown me if I get into drugs, and a puff of weed isn't worth it. Even if it is harmless.

Thing is, if it is legalised, it wouldn't be rebellious to smoke it any more, which is why many teens get into it, and they may try harder and more dangerous drugs to get that "rebelliousness".
