Default Theatre Gays?

Alright so.. I have this friend named Sarah who clearly is aware that I'm gay, she's fine with it, etc. She's involved with drama as well, and she is currently the head of the ushers for our next production this fall. For the first time in awhile, I actually talked to her today after school.. like, an actual conversation instead of just a "hi" in the halls. She was talking to me and some other of her drama friends, all of which were gay. We ended up just talking about all of the people in drama, and it occured to me.. A LOT of guys in drama are gay. I realized this awhile ago, but the number seriously surprised me. I only thought there was a handful.. but no. I am by no means bashing them, but I was very shocked actually. Why is it that a lot of the gay guys always seem to be in drama. It must be that creative and expression thing, which I apparently don't have. I'm a dysfunctional gay boy. *cries*

I'm rambling haha, but.. say what you wish.

Cause Theater is nontradiation to guys, straight guys have a bigger adversion to it.
So gay guys since they are already not "normal" are more willing to try something like that.

I don't think I could ever do theater myself, but I have huge admiration for anyone who can get on stage night after night and do the same thing every time, in front of hundreds. Especially if they can sing while they do it. I have unmeasurable respect for male musical theater performers.

The entertainment industry is built on homosexuality (Jerry Herman, Tennessee Williams, John Patrick Shanley, Stephen Sondheim, maybe Marlon Brando). Difficult lives can lead to an outlet of artistic expression. That basis for the theatrical (and most other art forms) creates a socially liberal environment that welcomes all.

I am gay and work in the theatre. I don't do it because I am gay, because I loved theatre looooong before discovering sexuality. It just so happens that something about art in general is attractive to a great number of homosexuals, and theatre has become a welcoming environment for such people. It's funny to me...often the conservative couples who see "The Phantom of the Opera" (which I love), and find the Phantom and Raoul handsome, talented, and fantastic, do not realize that more often than not, Christine's two lovers are played by gay men.

My university offers a course called THTR 124 Introduction to Gay Plays, so I don't think this phenomenon is unnoticed or mythical. Lol.

Yes, the theatre is full of gays, and I'd like to know why too.

However, the straight guys are invading, making it harder to pick up. Grrr.

The straight guys are invading? No one's invading...we're all working together...and there has always been a great number of straight men working in the theatre.

Yes it does seem like a lot of gay guys are in theatre, doesn't it? Maybe it's because a lot of gay guys have great talent. Lol.

I did Theatre throughout high school but stopped now that I'm in college and don't think I'd be successful at it--well, I do want to try stand-up and see if I can join an imrpov troupe, that's what I was really good at...
Anyway, I did theatre because in seventh-eighth grade I started watching Degrassi, the Canadian preteen soap opera, and I wanted to be like those kids on TV. I don't know why exactly--I think I wanted people to feel the same way my character did. I guess I figured it's less confrontational to get people to agree with a character than it is to get people to agree with me.
