This weekend I drove to Tennessee from Florida (about 10 hour drive) for the biggest regatta on the easy coast in the fall. I obviously had a lot of down-time, so I decided that I would atleast attempt to get something done. I wrote this essay mostly because it is the shortest length out of all of them, only 350 words. Additionally, it has the most substantial prize of a $15,000 savings bond. I've done everything required for the essay, because I have to be sponsored, which I have been. The prompt is to write 350 words about what the American Flag stands for. I understand that to some people some of the things I wrote will be a little biased, but remember, I am appealing to retired American militants and these are some things I'm sure they would want to hear. It's like feeding the American government's pork-barrel.. it happens. So, here is my essay: Freedom, liberty, independence, and fortitude, albeit, the most enduring -- sacrifice. Unbeknownst to common appeal, the American flag is bold. Allowing Americans to experience freedom is the statement. The inability to allow liberty and independence to permeate its thread-like infrastructure is its weakness. The most dreadful of endevours, fortitude and sacrifice, meet the American flag on the battlefields and in the history books. Never have they waned their whippings of vindictive, cruel, and heartless oppressors, either. Not once has the American flag lessened its hold on its fruition, America. By our soldier's sides has the flag forever stood, to provide rememberence of their cause. To sacrifice victory has always been out of the question, and will it always provide strength. The American flag is strength -- it is endurance. It has endured. But endurance does not only create greatness, it allows resilience. For time to allow the American flag to manifest one cause has been its most invaluable gift. For, there was a time when the American flag stood for a new nation, seeking only independence. Now, with time as an ally, the American flag also represents unity. All these great words are represented by the American flag, and give reason to believe that America is a free and unified nation. Undoubtedly, this has been the flag's destiny since the beginning. But what is in a flag? Why so influential? Specifically, it is due to its unconscious abiity to bring together diverse groups of peole, and provide to them a fate. A God is to religion as the Flag is to America. The flag's influential abilities have ben forsaken for so long that people often do not even recognize it is forgotten. In the new era of America that we are approaching, perhaps the flag's reality can be revived. For as long as I can remember, America has been the greatest nation; nothing great can flourish without the co-existence of a motif. The American flag is just that, an enduring motif. Well there you have it. Feel most free to provide any sort of feedback. I particularly love grammatical feedback, considering I'm a freak on grammar. ![]() Love ya guys! ![]()

you're the second person to pull that quote. one of my friends from crew told me he liked that haha. I think it makes the point.. its just one of those things to look at from afar, like most people do a God. But also.. they abuse it. :/
