Saw the other poll about seat belt use, and it got me thinking... do you ever text and drive?

HELL NO! Knew a few people who did. Most of them dead. I don't even like talking on the phone when I drive.

I don't drive but I would never text and drive regardless. I've heard of so many fatal accidents that where caused by a driver who was texting. The text can wait and if it's an emergency, pull over!

No, I don't. I don't even use the phone without my iPhone headphones. My city passed a law that banned texting and using the phone, even to make calls, unless it's hands-free (exceptions made for emergencies, of course). Not paying $200 to get an "LOL" text.

My mother does this sometimes. It's absolutely ridiculous.

My family is always calling me when I am driving. Then they bitch at me because I don't answer. My state passed a law making it illegal to use phone when driving. Hands free is okay. But I hate it when they call. I usually flip it open to speaker and yell, "Can't talk! Driving! Bye!" And I am pissy when I do. If I don't do it, they just continue to blow up my phone with calls and voice messages. Almost makes me want to chuck my phone out of the window as I drive.

My car reads out the texts for me so there's no need for me to do it. Works via Bluetooth for calls aswell.

Very annoying being in a car with someone who texts or calls by hand.

I'm ashamed to admit that I have done it before. :icon_redf I know the dangers involved. But when my phone rings while I'm driving, I let it ring. Or if I'm expecting an important call, I'd pull off to the side of the road if possible and safe to do so. But usually when someone texts me when I'm busy driving, I'll let them wait for a reply until I've reached my destination.

This is downright stupid and dangerous to yourself and others. There's just no reason to be doing this ever

If I need to make an urgent text which I rarely do I would pull over. Same if I had an important call coming through.

I don't drive but I can't even text in a moving vehicle as a passenger. Just looking at a screen whilst moving makes me nauseous so I don't know how anyone could text and drive at the same time.

I always remember once when I was a teenager waiting at a bus stop on my way to school, the bus arrived, and the driver was steering one handed whilst chatting away on his phone! Baring in mind this was outer South London so it was a double decker as well. 'Ah well, never mind if I crash into a building and we all die horribly, I've got to take this!'

I pull over if I need to make a phonecall.

not only is it illegal to use a cellphone and drive in my state, even if it were legal, I would still pull over to make phonecalls.

First, I don't text. If I have something meaningful to say to someone I'll call them. People around here cross the town's main road in a trance without even looking up as they stare at that little screen. Lights turn green and drivers don't even notice until they hear the blasting horns behind them. Texting drivers were one of the reasons I sold my motorcycle after riding close to 300K miles through most of my adult life. The worst offenders are clueless young bimbos who have a hard time aiming the car anyway. Call it an old man's tirade but it's true.

I do not text while driving.

If I make a call, I will pull over.

If I receive a call, I will take it initially and quickly find a place to pull over. I guess I can also lay the phone down on the console and hit the speaker feature, so I can keep both hands on the wheel. I've done that, too, but prefer to pull over altogether.

Some people shouldn't even text and walk let alone driving.

I'm ashamed to admit I may have done this a few times in the past :icon_redf but only when it was very important (that's no excuse I know)

Anyway, I've learnt since then and came to realise how amazingly dangerous it actually is.

I've done it before, but then I realized how serious the risk of doing it is. I'll admit, I do text when I'm at a red light. But after it turns green, I put my phone down. If I talk on the phone, I always have in my earplugs so I can keep both hands on the wheel.

The commercial about texting and driving is very true. Most people always say, "Oh it won't happen to me." ...and then it does.
