Would you augment yourself?

I've been playing a bit of Deus Ex lately and I felt like it was an interesting discussion.

Let's say technology had advanced so far that humanity was capable of replacing parts of your body with superior bionic versions. We're talking stronger bionic arms, bulletproof torsos, eyes that can see long distances and snap pictures at anytime, legs that allow you to run fast and jump high etc etc.

Would you do it? Which parts would you augment?

Personally I'd augment my arms not just for strength but for precision. I imagine it'd help a lot doing things like drawing and calligraphy.

Good question for me it would be eye-site...be able to see without glasses or contacts.

Well... I'd like to have my eyesight fixed, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about having an electronic eye and not my own eyeball.
As for the rest... is it very shallow of me to say it depends on how these things look and feel? If they're indistinguishable from actual human flesh and bone to the touch and sight (and if they're also free ), then I might, but otherwise, nope. And even if they were, I wouldn't do too many parts. I'd rather be more human than robot.

I'd probably get all of it done. Provided it wasn't too painful. I'd love to overcome the limits of biology.

In fact, if it was possible to transplant my consciousness into a hyper intelligent, advanced, but also attractive (and outwardly resembling my human body. But with a penis and flat chest.) robotic body, I would.

I don't know, I mean, on one hand I'm scrawny and pretty physically weak, so getting "upgrades" sounds kind of tempting. I don't know if I'd really do that, though. But one bionic right arm couldn't hurt, right?

For such a thing I wouldn't mind the pain.
Or pump me with codein and stuff.

Augment? All my five senses, plus get a sixth : Being able to detect magnetic fields. I'd also control how much info I got from my senses, to avoid overload.

More stamina would be definitely on the pack, probably also superhuman strenght.

Levitate... That would be awesome... Ok, I'll better stop now.

I'd change everything, from head to toe.

My hands...I'd love to paint well and play the cello...separately of course.

A new back...I broke mine 2 years ago and had a fusion...flexibility and being able to play some sports again would be great.

A little more girth and length in the nether region...I'm happy with what I've got, but just for a pure aesthetic reasons...nothing huge...not porn star...just a tiny bit more.

No. Never. I've read too many books like Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 to know where thatbwould lead.

Nah. It took me a few years to come to love my body as is, and I'm gonna stick with it now.

Things like joint replacements, maybe. Knees, hips, that sort of thing. Cosmetic stuff, never. I am more than the size and shape of body parts and so are you. Why many women equate their value as a person relative to their cup size, the shape of their ass or the color of their hair baffles me.

I'd just want to be a badass looking cybernetic lady with the ability to kick a car sideways 100 feet.

I said in my first post that I'd augment my arms, but that's only if I had to choose one part. If I wasn't restricted I'd do what some other people said and just flat out exchange everything. I mean... If I had the chance to be this I would take that offer in a heartbeat both for the functionality and just to look like an awesome cybernetic being.

I'd like to have my vision be normal again, lost most of it in one eye, and everything is off-balance, and weird.

That, and I have TMJ, so I'd like a new jaw, and a neck that didn't hurt, and teeth that never had problems. But other than that, I'm fine.

I mean, a bigger penis might be fun, but the bigger ones I've run across seem to take longer to get hard, and don't seem to 'work' as well...like it takes more effort to get anything out of 'em, and they go soft easier. (Based on a sample size of about 8 penises)

Eyes, because I do wear glasses, and would like enhanced sight.
Ears, because I'd like to have enhanced hearing, just because it'd be nice.

Everything else, I could probably do without. Though HuskyPup brings up a good point about the teeth, so maybe those too. But other than that, I much like my being human, and with it the ability to experience organic sensation.

I'd prolly get nothing. The point of living is kinda taken away if you replace everything in your body with electronics. I like a little challenge. Being strong or whatever is not just something that you should be given. I think you should have to work a bit for it, that way once you see results it makes you feel amazing.

Given that pretty much all of my body hurts to some degree either constantly or frequently, it would be hard to know where to start/stop! I would say if there was some way to just stop that pain without changing... well everything, that would be the way to go. I am used to pain by now but I could do without it. But even then I would still want to possess other sensory abilities and be able to feel touch, and some level of response pain is necessary for avoiding hazards and injury, so it's a tricky one. Certainly I would like better eyesight and for my ears to stop closing up and muffling my hearing all the time. And I'd like a digestive system that could do what it's supposed to without a load of problems. Teeth as others have said, I have a dental phobia and although I have been tackling it pretty well and managing trips to the dentist it would be a relief to never have to go again.

Hard work can never get you the point that cybernetics could potentially take you. Transhumanism, which this conundrum is about, is about augmenting humanity to surpass the limits of our frail bodies. It's not about shortcuts.

There's nothing saying that the technology is lacking in sensory input. I'm sure it'd be possible to simulate the sense of touch in cybernetic technology. Only difference would probably be that you can turn it off or turn it down.
