    So we've had the 'Were you born on your due date?' poll, and I thought this might be an interesting one. Today my mother and I were talking and briefly mentioned the subject of breastfeeding; she breastfed me until I was 2 years old at which point she had to stop as it was giving her a calcium deficiency. By contrast my mother herself says she was never breastfed at all, because she was born with a constricting throat malformation which prevented her from being able to swallow.

    To the best of your knowledge, were you breastfed as a baby/young child? And if so for how long? Was it a mixture (breast and formula)? Or if you are a parent yourself, did you do it and for how long?

    My mom tried as long as she could stand it, but alas, I was born with two front teeth...

    I was strictly formula, and a very certain formula for medical reasons.

    My mother said that she tried it a few times when I was born and I just wouldn't latch on so I was formula-fed.

    Nope. I was raised on Tetley. I'm only half joking.

    Although it does remind me of something my dad says. I actually was dropped on my head at the age of 2. I bit my dad's leg and he dropped me. I cried, so my mom told him off.

    Not really. I think for the first couple weeks (because that's what my mom did for all her kids) and then it was all formula. Dunno if there was a reason but I think it was so other people could feed the kids too, instead of just my mom.

    I was breastfed exclusively for about six months and then breast milk was supplemented with "baby food" for more than another year. My mom was told by her doctors that it was the best thing to do for me.

    My mom wasn't able to produce milk. Maybe because I was born so early?

    You're welcome. Now I want to know when it's safe for babies to drink tea. I don't know when I began but my mom says I was hesitant to throw out my first tea cup and get an adult tea cup.

    "Right, time for a proper brew!"

    My youngest half-brother needed a high energy formula that they got on prescription. Even once he was on solid food as well as milk it was an uphill struggle getting him to gain any weight on account of him being Down's syndrome.

    Formula, most likely.

    I had an affinity for Kool-Aid as an infant, though. Must have been how bright the colors looked, in glasses, that attracted me to it.
