Do you hide your stories, your notebooks? Or don't you have problems to show your compositions in your family?

I write with my PC but sometimes I need to write on a notebook (don't care why, I'm crazy) and I'm afraid that my spiteful sister can steal my notebooks and read all.

I don't write porn staff XD but I just find annoying being "spied".

My family knows I like writing but they are soooo meddlers...

I hide them indeed (in general). I only show them to a selected group of people. The reason..? Well, some people like to copy ideas. I don't want that when I've not published a book yet. =)

You're right. But I don't think a person from your family could be such wrong. At least, I know my sister couldn't ever steal my ideas...The problem is that she could create prejudices against me for what I write -.-

Ooh, my direct family is part of people I would tell about my work. But more distant family, no, I won't tell them (details). =)

I don't share my writing with people I know. I post some of it online, and it would be rather difficult (though never impossible) for a family member to trace it back to me. I'm not ashamed of my writing, but for me, it's something very intimate. I'd rather show it to complete strangers on the internet than to friends or family members, because I feel like it's something very close to me and probably says a lot about who I am and how I think.

That said, I have shown a friend, because she asked and I realized I was okay with her reading (some of) my words. But it's very, very rare that I'm comfortable enough with someone IRL to share what I write.

I don't like other people seeing my writing, I don't know why, I just get anxious when people read it. :3

No, I publish them online. I don't actually write stories that often, but do rather a lot of other fictional content.

I also write instructional materials for a living so hundreds of people see my work on a routine basis.

I started posting a bit of my WIP (Work in Progress, for anybody unfamiliar) on Wattpad, but then I took it down because it's TERRIBLE... I kind of hope it never sees the light of day. It's on hold at the moment, but I might start it again when college rolls around.
I hate hate hate sharing my work. It's embarrassing and way too revealing for me.

I choose not to answer the poll because there really isn't a middle ground or apathetic option.

I wouldn't have a problem sharing my work with others; in fact, given that I would venture to say that sharing my work is a central motivator for writing in general. I am not a completely open book in regards to my work, however, but that has nothing to do with privacy and everything to do with my wish to make sure that every reader who will pick up my books in the future will come to them largely ignorant.

I hide them until I think they're good enough where I would be proud of them if others were to read them.

This. I don't show anything until I'm not embarrassed about showing it. First drafts tend to be pretty bad.

I also have a tendency to change things as I go along, so if I show something too early, it won't make any sense when the final version is finished.

I am paranoid to the point where I keep all my work on two flash drives that I keep on my person at all times. I don't even save things to my computer on the off chance it crashes or gets stolen.

When I wrote my novel for school, I refuse to let ANYONE see it until it was complete. The only one who could read it was my school supervisor. All the people I showed it to after loved it.

My reasons was that I didn't want their comments to affect me. If they thought it was bad, I might have thrown everything away and stopped it entirely. I wanted to make it see the light of day. I was also really critical of myself when I wrote it.

The things that I write are fanfictions of shows that I watch and I would post them online. The only people that I would show it to are the people who also likes reading/writing fan fictions. And I sometimes write them in a journal and then type them in order to post it online

Almost everybody I come into contact with offline, doesn't like to read, so even if they found material I had written, they'd just look at it and put it away. About the only thing they would read is, a title.

Usually, I keep my writings to myself, until I have a few pages, basically an idea. That way, if I do share it, others have a glimpse into what I'm trying to do. A sample, if you will, and not a jumbled mess of a beginning.

I'm a reserved writer, and I rarely show my work.

Most of them, yes. Because 90% of them are malformed abominations XDD not that horrible in terms of technique, but because I *hate* to open myself up for judgment. More often than not it goes poorly.

But if I've got something I think is good and worthwhile, yeah I'll show it to people.

Rarely. I'll only show someone what I've wrote if I consider it decent enough for them to bother reading it.
