I was bit by a Pelican today...

    No lie...

I was at the Hannover Zoo today, and there was an area with loose Pelicans and people could walk amongst them. And apparently these Pelicans disliked Americans, because all the Germans who walked with them were safe. But they all bit at my legs.

God how I love the zoo...
OH! And I saw Capybaras!! (Wasserschwein auf Deutsch) I didn't think that my favorite animal could survive in Europe! So afterwards, mama (my host-mom) bought me a stuffed Capybara and bought me a caution style sign that says: I love my Meerschweinchen (Guinea Pig).
I have no idea why half of the sign is in German and the other half in English, but who cares!

Let's talk about fond zoo memories!!!

Note: Please excuse me for capitalizing 'Pelicans'... In German grammar, you capitalize all nouns and I'm thinking in fluent Danglish right now... My apologies

Capybaras are native of Uruguay. I've seen them in the wild, as well as in zoos. I live three blocks from Atlantida's zoo and they have a couple there.

I've been to bajillions of zoos and I had never ever seen them in captivity before. And they've been my favorite animal since I first saw them on Animal Planet when I was like 3.
That's why I got Guinea Pigs... They're the closest related domestic animal to a Capybara
You know those crazy cat ladies who have like 500 cats?
I was a crazy Guinea Pig boy because I had 15 at one point in time...

Hmm... I want to name my stuffed Capybara now...
    Suggestions?

If you lived in Uruguay you could have a real capybara as a pet if you wanted. They're gentle animals, and as far as I know it isn't illegal, as the worst they can do is destroying your furniture with their teeth.

    ^ O... ^

    Poor Jazz... :frowning2:

I got wapped in the face by and elephant's trunk once. It was a baby elephant who was, aparently, eager to get the (nasty-ass) peanuts that I had.

    ANTONIO!!! Or Antoinette!

When I was between about 10 and 12 or so, at a duck pond before they had the "don't feed the ducks" signs up, I was bitten by a white goose, with a bump on its nose, kinda like this one:

Haha, "Wasserschwein" literally translates to "water pig". Capybara's are like every animal in one. I took 4 years of German, so I'm not a native speaker.

I used to go to the San Francisco Zoo when I was younger. There was an open aviary like you described, except instead of pelicans there were Rainbow Lorikeets, which are just really colorful parrots. They landed on my shoulders! I think this was the zoo where a tiger escaped and killed a teenager after they taunted it for a while...

A name for your stuffed Capybara eh? Well... If you're looking for real names then I suppose you could have
    1. Kurt
    2. Horace
    3. Friedrich

And I'm out of names for the moment. And if you ever do despair, just go safe and call it Capy. =P
