I'm doing a persuasive essay proving that Jediism is a real religion. Are any of you Jedi Knights?

I am a Light Sith, which is at least as plausible as any Abrahamic religion.

IMO, it's another way to say atheist/agnostic really no different than the flying spaghetti monster or trying to get heavy metal recognized as a religion.

At the end of the day, atheism and religion are the same... A belief based upon nothing XD

Don't worry, if you have enough talent you'll convince most of the people of anything.

No. The laser sword doesn't go with my outfit.

Good luck on the essay! =)

I'm 'only' a secular humanist atheist, no Jediist here. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I've always found it funny how the Jedi scold the Sith for "dealing in absolutes",
but one of the greatest Jedi Masters goes and drops an absolute:

"Do or do not. There is no try."

    What the hell, Yoda?

If The Force were something to tap into, I'd probably look like:

And I would, probably, have a fully operational Death Star -- with no "battery" on a planet full of Ewoks!

I'm a Gray Jedi, at best. A Sith, naturally.

"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
    Through passion, I gain strength.
    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
    The Force shall free me."

    Sounds good to me.

These are not the answers you are looking for.

Haha, I heard there are people who really follow this as a religion. Not any less silly than other religions in my opinion.

If Star Wars were real, I'd be Sith. Or not, because they still must obey someone.

    I'd be part of neither.

Not necessarily. It's a honor of sorts, for a student to challenge their master, and considered the highest honor to successfully kill their master, when it comes to the Sith. It means the student had the guile, strength, and skills to surpass their mentor, making them the epitome of a Sith -- capable, at all costs.

Why keep somebody who no longer has anything to teach? To vanquish them, is to prove there is no sentimental attachment which, to the Sith, is weakness.

Any Sith Lord that does not expect potential betrayal, is a fool, and deserving of death. Think Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader.

No, but I did have a crush on the Stormtroopers...always wanted to have a group 'session' with them.

But never worshipped them or had any other force related sorta idealism.

Well it's never gonna be a real religion.... I suppose you could try to persuade someone that it's as valid as other religions but it's really not.

Yeah Palpatine's own master found that out the hard way, hehe!

As for me, I've heard of Jediism but have yet to actually encounter it. If I had to choose I'd be a Grey Jedi. I couldn't stand the rigid dogma of the Jedi Order and I'm too much of a nice guy to be a Sith.

Nerd alert: Yoda's quote wasn't about absolutism or Luke's attempt to evade it. Clearly a person has to attempt a difficult task before accomplishing it. His quote was about attitude. If you go in thinking you'll "try", you recognize the high chance of failure and are more open to failing. If you go in while disregarding the chance to fail and focus only on success, you will be more inclined to try as hard as necessary to "do" the challenge. It's something many can learn from and something I personally need to take to heart more often.

And Austin, about Jedi's validity compared to other religions: A belief's popularity does not translate to greater or lesser truth.

Nope. I'm not terribly familiar with Star Wars. Although I've just read the '21 maxims of the Jedi code' and I think they're pretty cool. I wonder if Jediism might be considered a more serious religion in the distant future.

I follow the teachings of the fictional Tzeentch. Well, the positive pieces anyway. He would surely approve and even encourage my most morbid curiosities. Some will think this is silly and say I'll never find all the answers I seek. That's kind of the point. It helps me deal with knowing that free-will might be limited at best.

I don't really mind if somebody considers themselves to be a Jedi. I say good for them as long as they're a 'decent' person and yes I realise how vague that word is.
