I live in the northwestern corner of the United States where people are pretty accpeting of two guys holding hands in public, but in other places like the Midwest or the Deep South, people are less accepting and even hostile towards LGBT.

'Eww!', followed by how disgusting they think it is and the usual mocking and shit they do. I have yet to really see an out and open couple around where I live though, so this is mostly going by how people react to it on TV and stuff. Come to think of it, I can't even remember the last time I've actually seen a gay couple offline, or that I could at the very least identify as a couple.

Living in the South my entire life, the people around here have definitely grown and moved father on, but they'll still always be the last to accept any kind of change. You still here the
"ew"s and disapproval, and sometimes even hostility towards LGBT+. The problem with most of the otherwise wonderful people is the fact that they can't seem to let go of the past.

In my 19 years of living, I've never seen 2 guys kiss. Here in the Philippines, homophobia is still felt by many LGBT community. When 2 guys are seen holding hands (which I rare see), they get looks of disgust from other people, what more if they kiss.

Im gonna share this horrible scene in my life. There is this one time where I am peacefully watching The Walking Dead. Then my aunts caught me watching it at the same time where Aaron and Eric are kissing passionately. They swarmed on me and kept blabbering about how bad and how immoral being gay is. Then my cousin came and added to them. My aunt said that I should show my face to them if they knew I was gay. And my cousin even added that I would be a disgrace to our family name if I was gay. Well, I am of course destroyed after hearing those. After that "intervention", I just gave them a fake smile and just said that I am not gay.

If I got that from my relatives, imagine how would they react if they saw 2 stranger guys kissing. They probably would say EWWWW out loud and give them looks of disgust. This is one reason why I dont plan to stay longer here as soon as I graduate.

I can't tell you how much I connect with your post here.

My relatives(some of whom I'm currently stuck with for the time being) are pretty much stuck on 'around-the-clock homophobic mode'.

One example I'll give you(which I've touched on before somewhere) is when my aunt noticed my cousin taking an interest in porn. At first she didn't like it but soon sighed, guessed he was at that stage, and said "At least he isn't looking at two guys doing stuff. That's when I'd be worrying." And ofc anyone in earshot had to chime in with their 'eww's.

My brother's cousin was visiting before and, as he left out the door to go he was on the phone with his gf (their convo was about some bi person) and said - "It's not that I don't like gay people, just let one of them touch me...I'll knock them so hard that they'll be wishing they were straight." Said without a care in the world...so you can guess how much anyone else around cares.

Being (really) closeted and actually present for this kind of shit...a whole other nightmare. That must've been extremely uncomfortable for you there. :l

well it guess its kind of a 50/50 thing. some people will go eww and others will not care. personally i have always thought that people growing up in my generation were more open minded and really could care less if they see two guys or two girls kissing, but i learned its not so much like that a few months ago. i was watching a play with some classmates and there was a scean where two of the guys kissed. i thought it was really cute, but the people i was there with were disgusted ( there the same age as me). so i guess there are people in all age groups that are ok with it and that are disgusted by it. its a shame.

Iv only ever seen one same sex couple holding hands in my city but no one seemed to take much notice. There was the obvious look but thats about it. I live in a multi cultural city so I get to see all sorts of people, a lot of people here are used to differences.

It's funny how they would react so disgusted by it when that show features gore, violence, amputation, beheading etc but the moment it shows a 5 second on-screen kissing of two guys, all of a sudden all hell breaks lose, lol.

And yeah I agree, never have I witnessed two guys kissing in public although I have seen a foreigner holding hands with his bf who appears to be wearing in women's clothing and it's so obvious that all eyes are on them.

Normally people where I live are indifferent to it. When I see gay guys in town, holding hands or kissing they get no recognition. However, today these two boys in my school (they're straight btw) were hugging eachother in Tesco (supermarket those who don't know) and got yelled at and kicked out -_-

I guess most people wouldn't be bothered. I mean you see men dressed as women walking the streets without so much as a care in the world so two guys kissing isn't really that big of a deal.

I haven't really noticed, but I have seen two guys holding hands downtown and no one cared. They weren't doing it to be conspicuous, but definitely there were other people around and no one batted an eye. I'm not sure about kissing, but I don't think it would be a big deal. People here are pretty liberal.

Although one time I saw a guy wearing really short shorts that like a cheerleader would wear. And as he walked by, some people started sniggering or pretending to vomit. So yeah...people here are not a big fan of guys wearing girls' clothes, I guess.

It would depend where in the city or suburbs...In the posh suburbs not much reaction looks or an odd comment, but nothing to fear...In town I don't think much at all...I've kissed friends out on the street without so much as a batted eyelash, but I wouldn't even go there in the more working class neighborhoods...it would be a crap shoot and I wouldn't like the odds.

You don't usually see gay couples kissing in public here but people often like to point out same sex couples holding hands.

So I can add input on 5 regions here because I lived at some point or another in these regions. West hollywood, gay central. You see it all the time there. Boston, no one really cares. Rural New Hampshire, no one cares but you will get stared at. Rural region of brazil ( away from big cities like Sao Paulo or Rio ), your life would definitely be at risk ( even the cops are homophobic so don't expect them to help you ). Rural Bolivia, same as the above except they would probably steal your wonderful clothes lol.
