Right now. Cold turkey. 365 days free of cussing. Would you manage it?

If you need an incentive, imagine that your job (or a job you'd manage) is offering a 2% year end bonus, if you succeed.

I'm just observing that my dad doesn't often realise how much he swears.

If you already don't swear, then I dunno

F**** no, I don't swear much in neutral/sad mood. But when something is bloody annoying I can swear for couple of seconds and then I'm fine...

edit: and it's pretty hard to annoy me (x

Define "swearing", because some folks don't consider certain words as a swear.

In theory, sure, I could. But I'd miss the coloration it provides my speaking, as well as the emphasis. But, sure, easy enough. With a 2% year end bonus, that makes it easier.

Nooo! Even if I tried as hard as I could, I'd fail as soon as I get seriously annoyed. Or hurt myself. Swearing is my natural response to those things.

Whatever the poster considers swearing. No changing their minds about what they consider swearing after reading the thread. That's the best idea I have right now to define it. Without making a huge list!

    Fuck that shit.

I don't understand why anyone would want to. Yes, there is a time and a place for swearing but it's just words expressing ideas and emotions.

No. Because even if I agreed to do it at some point my concentration will lapse, and some casual swearing will slip out and I'd fail pretty fucking quickly.

    ^Like that.

I could because I barely swear. Its something about my upbringing where my siblings didn't really follow but I felt compelled to adhere to not swear.

Have I sworn... Yes. But it makes me uncomfortable and I don't enforce this now internalized rule on others its just another quirky thing about myself.

Downside is that hearing others swear provokes my anxiety.

It would be super easy for me, I don't swear a lot and it's only when I act I have to swear because the play requires it.

Nope, hell, at school me and my friends have swear wars, of course I can't. I'd be suprised if I could go a day, let alone a year!

I probably could, unless we're going by the 2nd grade definition that includes "crap" and other mild words like that as "swears". I don't tend to swear very often otherwise, so I think I could go without it.

I have no opposition to it, though--it's just another way language can be quite colorful.
