Default Man having a baby

OK so I was reading the BBC website, as you do, and came across an article about Thomas Beatie and his second pregnancy.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7728513.stm

In brief Thomas was born Tracy and he started taking androgens in his twenties. Since then him and his wife wanted to have a baby, but unfortunately his wife was not able to conceive. So he decided to carry the child...hence being the first "pregnant man" in the world. The baby was born in June and he's pregnant again.

I was just wondering what people's views were on this. Is it a medical marvel or are we tampering too much with nature's fabric? Is this a step forward for the LBGT community or just another reason for "normal" people to call us freaks? Should all this even have international attention?

I personally think its a highly unusual situation and life has arisen from an unexpected source. It must have been emensely difficult for Thomas to take on the maternal role, but I think it demonstrates how much he is willing to sacrifice for his child (even before she was conceived).

I remember seeing that news...
I was like "What!?" but then I realized he was actually she.

So I'd say maybe it's still strange to hear but soon or later it won't be that weird at all.
If some magical thing happen and man also can be pregnant I'd have baby too

I think it will be hard for the kids to understand that their dad had them. I think that kids are going to be so rude if they know that their dad had them.I dont have anything against it personally, but Im not sure that it is good for the kids, children can be so cruel sometimes.

Sorry, but when people say that transpeople are REALLY or ACTUALLY anything but their true gender, it upsets me. You probably were implying that he was BORN she, but he's not ACTUALLY she. He's had SRS and taken hormones and had his gender legally changed.
Sorry... nothing personal, it's just a pet peeve

Pump him up with all the hormones and give him all the breast surgery he wants. He's still got female parts under the hood. He may be legally recognized as a man and if I knew him I wouldn't think of him as anything other than a guy but when you strip away all the politically correctness, the psychology of gender and look at it from a purely anatomical stanpoint then it is clear a woman had that baby.

A medical marvel? Hardly. I have nothing but respect for him but I'm just calling a spade a spade.

This came up in my health class last year and one guy said "O, my God! He's a fucking tranny. Get over it! Dumbasses..."

I don't think it should be getting this much attention. It's their life, and their buisness. I don't see how it matters to people around the world.

What I meant to say is that he has female reproductive organs and that's why he can be pregnant.

Sorry for my poor English skill

thank you.
it's also a pet peeve of mine.

as for beatie.
that's great, that he's carrying again.
i mean, everyone has a right to their own family, and like he said the first time around, "I see pregnancy as a process and it doesn't define who I am. It's not a male or female desire to want to have a child, it's a human desire. And I'm a person and I have the right to have my own biological child."

I'm really happy for Thomas, but all the shouts of "Stop calling it a man!" are really getting to my nerves. He had various types of surgery, took the necessary hormones, and is legally recognized as a male. So what if he still has a vagina? Gender is not determined by the presence or absence of a penis.

I was talking about this to a colleague at work, she thought It was disgusting and it shouldn't be allowed;

I'm going to say here what I said to her.

why is it disgusting and why should it not be allowed? People have a right to do what will make them happy, they are not harming anyone by doing this so I think the press and the public need to get off their backs and let them get on with it.

As my dad always says "each to their own"

soz
got a bit carried away then, thi just madee me realize that coming out at work would be alot harder than I anticipated

Actually,I think it's wonderful. For someone to go through this,in order to have a child,it means to me that this child is loved and wanted. Who gives a shit who had the child. This world and attitudes are what truly disgusts me.

There was a special on about his family on fiday night with Barbara Walters. I wasnt sure of the whole thing at first but seeing him with the baby and his wife was beautiful they are a well adjusted family and that baby is going to have so much love and support she was definatley born into a strong loving family and will grow up knowing that regardless of who gave birth to her. They are fighting the state though because on the birth certificate they wanted to list him as mother as he delivered the baby even though he identifies himself as a man. The state then changed the birth certificate to list no mother or father rather parent parent thus denying the couples marriage now this is where the major issues are going to arise. And he is pregnant with baby #2 now.

Yes, it is inappropriate to call Thomas female even though he has a vagina. He has felt like a man all his life. Some people are born with organs from both sexes. What do you call them? Well you call them the gender that they most identify with, right?

On 20/20 Thomas talked of a book they have for children where the male seahorse delivers the babies. He said they will read that book to Susan and tell her that is how she was born too. Thomas is Susan's daddy. She isn't going to care whose body she came out of.

As long as the children can grow up healthy and happy, no problem.

And if they can't, it's more society's fault than anything.
