Do you think performers should come out?

I'm a musician, but I don't want to publicly come out. I don't want to be known as a queer musician, I just wanna be known as a regular musician.

Just like with anybody else, they shouldn't feel pressured to be out if it isn't something they feel like is in their best interests.

My sexual fluidity is no secret, and won't be. However, my birth defect (being transexual) will not be told. They do not need to know, and I do not want to be misgendered.

Visibility is important, but it would be unfair to expect any individual person to come out publicly were it to make them uncomfortable.

Do you think visibility is important if it's irrelevant? I play instrumental music, so I'm not sure if coming out would be relevant for me. But I might come out it I write a lot of love songs about girls to give people more context.

Coming out remains fully a personal choice, whatever someone's profession.

Yes I do, but it depends on each individual, if they want to come out, then so be it.

It's definitely their choice, although there is an aspect of "responsibility" right now to be visible because of the LGBT+ Rights movement. More people are coming out now than ever so to have visible celebrities can really help young people and even adults. And that totally does not just apply to A Listers or a band's front man. The more visibility the more we can work towards normalization right?

There's also a few celebrities that have come out but haven't been labelled as a 'queer artist'. So I think that's was of a concern in general, although maybe it'd be different in different genres.

    But again, it's their choice.

Yes, they should, but it's their personal choice. When you are known, you have power to influence people, especially young ones, and if performer is brave enough to come out, people look up to you, or... you lose fake homophobic fans.

it depends. In some cases this could be bad for their career.

socker isn't performance but if you look there for example coming out as gay for a male player usually means a gang of hooligans protesting the next time he wants to play.

i think in some cases of a performance career it might be similar

WHY would your personal life be anybodys business????

I will never understand why gay people think their private lives should be ALWAYS made public domain!

    It's nobody's damned business.

It's a personal decision, not something for your fans or the general public to decide. If you don't feel comfortable coming out to the public you don't have to. I think in the arts, though, it's more accepted than in many other fields, and you may not necessarily be known as a "queer musician" because there are already so many others out there. Especially if your music isn't specifically about being gay. Really, though, it's up to you.

I definitely think performers should come out. But just because you are gay or lesbian doesn't mean you will be known as a Queer Musician. Queer Musicians are specifically singing or making music that has a focus on being gay or Lesbian. For e.g. Pansy Division, Shitting Glitter and a whole bunch of others.

Some gay guys have made music and it is not stated that they are Queer Musicians, but rather they are normal musicians, I'm sure the same can be said of some Lesbians in the music industry.
