Some of my biggest idols include:
YOHIO - A Swedish visual kei/metal/pop rock guitarist, singer and artist. He also happens to be the most fabulous cross-dresser ever (I did think he actually was of female sex when I first saw him, even though he is cis-gen, I think (think he said so in an interview)).

Kumi Naidoo - Current Executive Director of Greenpeace International. Very inspirational life story, and a great advocate of civil disobedience.

Tobias Sammet - A German power metal singer and main creator of the super band project Avantasia.

    Probably forgotten lots. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

GO Anti-plastics btw, whatever that is! yeah!

Vesalius (obv.), the Hunter brothers and Stephen Hawking.

I really admire great thinkers and scientists, especially those who faced adversity and still accomplished amazing things.

Some cool people inspire me to be a better person. Although I don't really have any role models. I'm glad you said fictional characters because I've related to some such as Byakuya Togami and Azuma Genkaku. I'm clueless about celebs.

As a black person, Martin Luther King and Malcom X. We need more people like them in this world.

I don't really have idols anymore but as a kid I aspired to be Vin Diesel.....What can I say I really loved the first XXX movie and Riddick was awesome as well.

That's all that comes to mind currently, though I'm sure I'm forgetting something or someone of more err substance.

Shigesato Itoi, creator of the Earthbound/Mother series. To me he seems like the coolest guy.

I also really admire Monkey D. Luffy, even though he's a fictional character. There's something about his bravery and tenacity that has always inspired me like no other character ever has. In a way, I find him kind of terrifying. Y'know, what made him really come to life was his incredible voice actress. I'm talking about the original Japanese version. I heard that at the end of the Enies Lobby arc, she had to stay out of work for months because she broke her voice on those screams. And you can hear it, too. I've honestly never seen anyone put more passion into a character than she did. And I know I've never gotten more chills listening to anything else. There was something really PRIMAL in that which I respect; something in that art which really touches me on a deep level. Like, holy shit. I can't recommend the anime on a whole, but her voice acting, especially at the end of the Rob Lucci fight, is probably some of the best stuff ever put to recorded audio.

I have no idols. =) Sure I envy some people, but to say they're my idol..? No, I have none. :icon_bigg

On topic, no idols for me, admire some people, but not enough to idolize any of them, unless I have a new crush.

I don't understand people that idolise celebrities with no discernible talent. We should be looking up to philosophers, scientists, activists and creatives. Especially children, it really saddens me when I hear a child saying they want to be a footballer when they grow up and girls just want to be models. I want to hear little girls aspiring to be physicists or writers, something that requires some talent or hard work.

What's wrong with being a model or football player exactly?

I dislike the word "idol", 'cause it means you following somebody blindly.

I know people with qualities I'd want for myself, but as far as I remember I never had anybody's picture on my wall, neither I followed anyone blindly. All the people I admired had very clear flaws... And I liked them for their flaws too, 'cause they seemed to fit so well in the whole picture... Still I didn't wanted the whole package for myself. You might like a rose, but that doesn't mean you want to become a rose or try to emulate a rose.

Yes, this is about short answers... I'd go for Sade (the writer, not the singer). I usually got tired pretty quick of somebody, but my admiration for Sade has been going for +15 years, and it never changed. Same old feeling, same old reasons.

I've met him more than once and he's kind of a dick. His music is alright when he's actually allowed to write it himself and he does have a fabulous style, but I really can't stand the guy.

As for myself, I always looked up to Morticia. She's not ashamed of being herself despite her being far from normal and shunned by pretty much everybody but her family. She never let's that get to her in the least and still manages to be a magnificent matriarch of her family. And dat style, rawr.

Hmm, well, I've actually heard that about him, as well :/ But he does have quite beautiful lyrics, I think (bit shallow sometimes, but otherwise...)
Never heard of this Morticia, should look her up

Like I said, his work is alright.

And you should've heard of or seen Morticia at least once. From the Addams Family.

I don't really "idolize" people, but Taylor Swift I guess.
