I'm an atheist. My family's still not too happy about that, despite the fact that I've been open about that for about 5 years. And people wonder why I have no plans of informing them of my sexuality...

Yup. Atheist. Doesn't mean I don't want some religious thing's to be real but I just don't believe in that stuff. Reincarnation would be awesome.

I was raised by atheists, and I definitely retained that into adulthood.

I should make a few qualifications. It's not that I believe there cannot be a supernatural power, it's just that I find it extremely unlikely given that such things have never been observed in a way that's reproducable. I think we can definitely say people haven't risen from the dead (although they have been incorrectly pronounced dead), and nobody has flown across the sky in a flaming chariot. So far we've been unable to locate heaven or hell using any of our advanced telescopes. We're pretty sure the universe is infact 14 billion years old, even though we have no idea what was going on between zero and the Planck time.

Also, I should say that I don't care about evolution or cosmology one bit. I'm a hacker and a mathematician, not a biologist or an astrophysicist. Being an atheist doesn't require me to "beef up" on evolution or cosmology so I can argue with the theists.

    Severely lapsed Catholic here.

I typically read Hitchens every year or two. Although a lot of that is just to read some of the best writing ever. I find after I read GinG my writing usually improves for a few weeks

Atheist. I used to be a strict religious person but then started asking questions and things began to quickly crumble.

I don't hold any beliefs in religions, gods, ghosts, angels, etc, but I also do not believe in the religion of Atheism.

And yes, Atheism IS a religion.

"a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance"

An Atheists supreme importance is that there is no such one, all knowing, all encompassing supreme being/or any such being at all. And a large group of people practicing the same belief on a large scale, is of course, a religion.

    Oooo, I'm curious............

    What questions did you ask?

What responses did you get, if any?

Exactly at what point/question/answer did you come to your conclusion?

    Penn Jillette is totally awesome.

I wish I was as eloquent with my thoughts and words as he is.

Although I believe in 90% of what he says and preaches, I also do not believe people are basically good, nor do I believe that the next generation of people will grow up in a better world. I also believe that no one would not steal that Ferrari he speaks about.
