Hard to say. But I doubt such a phenomenon exists. I personally have not seen any empirical evidence that would suggest that karma exists. People could say that positive things that happen to them are a result of the good they have done but in hindsight it is extremely easy to attribute a specific cause or significance to an occurrence.

I am a firm believer that we make our own luck. Do good things, treat people well and they will treat you well. Treat them badly and they'll do the same for you.

That is what I refer to as karma.

    Haha just this

As for karma, no I don't think it's at all real. I believe that it's simply a misinterpretation of our feelings and reactions to situations. Also that darned memory we're cursed with. What I mean of course is that we know if we've done good in the past and something good comes our way we can attribute it to "karma". As logical beings we need an explanation for everything however senseless it may be, I mean it's not like we need to justify everything for Go...nevermind.

When bad things happen to people, we get some weird satisfaction from that. Like smiling/laughing at someone who trips or falls even when we know it's rude or wrong to (it is hilarious though). Part of justifying this to ourselves is the same as when good things happen to us. When bad things happen to "bad" people it was "karma", they must have deserved it. It's all just logical thinking gone madddd.

I don't necessarily think it's a real force, but I do believe in reaping what you sow and that people who do bad things are going to have bad things done to them. And they can't be surprised when life bites them back.

An actual karma doesn't exist, but as Tennyson said, if you treat people well, you will generally be treated well by society, and vice versa. Humans have subconscious motives for being good, and it mainly has to do with our primal survival instincts.

I've always seen it as something people tell themselves to feel better when something bad happens to those who have wronged them in the past. Negative people tend to make life harder for themselves, though, so you could say the type of energy you're sending out does have an effect on one's life direction.

Real or not, it is not like it is going to stop us from being decent people either way, right?

I don't know if there is such a thing as karma, but there is such a thing as having good and bad days, and being on the winning and losing sides of situation in life.

I think what some of us do is ascribe meaning to the moments when we have bad days and end up on losing sides as a direct result of our good days or winning sides being ill-gotten, when really it's up to probability and the probability that you have good days gradually decreases with each consecutive good day.

I am a non religious person and do not believe in the super natural, spirits etc
Karma is an ideological point in Buddhism (my religion before I became and atheist).

I don't believe that there's a natural system of retribution that exists beyond human control.

I do believe that we can and do create social and legal norms to punish wrongdoers and enforce social cohesion. But it isn't neutral, it isn't necessarily fair and it doesn't right all wrongs. It can be vindictive, shallow, ill considered and brutal as easily as it can be just, profound, intellectually sound and caring.

    No. It's coincidence.

People like to see "what goes around come around." The majority of people want to see people's good actions rewarded and people's bad deeds punished. When bad deeds escape scrutiny and appropriate sanctions, some people feel "cheated" and I really can't say I blame them.

I'm pretty superstitious, but I feel like karma is wishful thinking~ I think it would be great it karma were real, but if it were, wouldn't everyone be good to make sure something bad didn't happen to them?
