I'm just curious about what states our non US EC users recognize by name or seeing it on a map.

I know where a lot of countries are located geographically in Europe, NA, and Asia but that's it. I also don't know many specific regions or provinces in most countries other than Canada and Japan.

So back to the question what states do you know?

    I recognise some states along the edges of the USA. I'd get at least 10 of them correct. The rest... uh... probably not ^^;

I'm pretty sure I know where to locate New York, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Arizona, California, Washington, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Of course I can also recognise Alaska and Hawaii, but I think many people can. They stand out.

For the record, I'm British, and we talked about the USA, in our Modern Studies class, at high school. I used to know all the states (and probably bragged about it), but now that information has given way for gaming or something.

By name nearly all familiar but can't count them.

On map I can easily recognize Alaska, Hawaii, Florida and California. Others iffy on their exact location.

By name, I am pretty okay, but the only one I can recognise on the map is Texas, probably because it was on Spongebob once

How people know where the Dakotas are before Kentucky blows my mind. Did the Dakotas give you Johnny Deep, Jennifer Lawrence, bourbon, or fried chicken?

    LOL.

Most Americans can't find all 50 on a map

They're all familiar to me by name -- if I spent enough time on it I think I could name all 50 without looking at a list -- but on a map? I can only place Michigan (so easy), Texas (ditto), California, Alaska, Hawaii, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, and FLorida.

I recognise all the names, but the only states I'd sort of remembered the locations of were these, the ones in bold are the ones I knew the best (and the things I remember them most for) :

    Washington, -where da President lives.
Oregon, -Courtney love comes from here.
    Nevada, -aliens might live here.
California, -Hollywood and ridiculously beautiful people.
Alaska, -it's fucking cold but beautiful.
Nebraska, -saw it pointed out on a map once.
    Texas, -lots of things.
Kentucky, -fried chicken and home to future Empress of the world.
Tennessee, -has some gorgeous mountains and contains Nashville; home of country music.
Florida, -my father went to Disney World here when I was a child, and brought back photos.
Virginia, -a family in-joke. Basically, my mother used to pronounce vagina as "virginia".
New York, -well known for many reasons, featured in lots of films and TV.
Maine. -Stephen King comes from here.

My geographical knowledge isn't as sharp nowadays, I used to look at maps a lot as a child and because America was somewhere I intended to visit one day I probably could have identified various states much better back then.

You know what's funnier is when you ask people who live here to draw a map of their own country. Some of the results are pretty great http://www.buzzfeed.com/adamellis/h...-ask-people-to-draw-maps-of-the-u#.tjX98zwE9L

I once asked an aussie friend how many of the states he knew by name, he got a few of the more obscure ones (outside of California, NY, Texas, etc) but i think its just cause he listens to sufjan stevens

Texas is the one that looks like a foam finger.

Alaska is attached to northern Canada.

Hawaii is chilling by itself in the ocean.

California is the skinny one on the west coast.

I'm pretty sure New York is the weird little rectangle not too far from the Ontario border. Hmm. Wait, NY Islanders... Okay so I guess they're somewhere with an island.

Im also pretty sure that New York is across some body of water from New Jersey? Because Jersey and New York have very similar placements to Gotham and Metropolis. Umm. Maybe New Jersey is the weird mountain-shaped state that's poking the weird rectangle of New York?

Florida is the little weird piece of land that's sticking out of the bottom of continental America.

Detroit is on the other side of Lake Ontario?

And Maine is also somewhere not far from the Ontario border I think. I've never been to the United States and it really shows.
