I'm gonna go with the north, because they sought to keep the country together and while I can't say they were morally superior to the south, they were less inclined towards slaves. For whatever reason (theirs might have been economical rather than feeling it's wrong) I have to go with that.

Ultimately though I'm glad I don't have to participate in a real war such as that one; we shouldn't have to resort to bloodshed and I'd probably end up having to fight against relatives.

The side I would have been enslaved on. The side that I would have been forced to fight on and die, weaponless, on the front-lines.

We might as well go there.

    North!

Born in the north, and even Maryland seems a bit too far south, at times. But it feels more northern, than southern, overall.

There was no need for a war at all. When the North refused to let the South secede, the Democratic experiment ended. Badly.

If they had allowed secession, I feel pretty strongly that we'd be reunified by now, and the Democratic experiment would have been proven a success...and possibly would still be going strong.

    This.

Oh the joys of siding with the side where I would've been a slave; fun stuff, eh?

Well, I just discovered recently that my family lived in Texas during the Civil War, so I voted "South," even if I didn't philosophically agree with the South's stance .

North. You're free to disagree, however in my humble opinion, if the South had won, the United States wouldn't have quite a few of the problems it does today. But the fact that they went to war so that they could continue to own human beings as slaves is pathetic, and the good guys won in the end.

I would have been confederate. Not that I like the whole slavery thing, but I like the idea of local government making the big decisions, instead of say DC deciding how to manage say, national parks and stuff that's not really any of their business

Yeah, don't get me wrong, the slavery thing was a VERY bad ordeal. From a political standpoint, the states in the south were so underrepresented and abused by the North. Granted there are flaws to the confederate constitution too. They evoke God in their preamble...uh oh... But they did allow for easier progression and easier amendment (only needed 2/3 votes rather than 3/4) which would speed things up as the world moved on around them. And yeah, I like the more localized government. I gotta go with the South.

True Sherman was a hero for basically pillaged cities in his March to the Sea. He burned Atlanta to the ground. And the North left the South in poverty after the Reconstruction Era, that can still be seen today. That's never mentioned either.

I'd have to go with the south because of state rights.

The North, but I would rather be a million miles away from the fray!

I had no clue! I don't remember ever being taught this in school, even though my high school history book seemed to have been written by someone on favor of the South. I have family that live in the South and they never told me this.

The South left themselves in poverty by not even trying to have an economy based on something other than slave labor.

Axis Powers and the Confederacy... I leave for a little while and the controversy rears it's head...

I don't know if I should answer this, LOL.
