Ironically enough, I'm going to borrow a quote from Miss Shirley Phelps Roper.

"Just because you say that, it doesn't automatically make it so."

I believe he later corrected himself to mean that the attitude towards homosexuals in Iran is not the same as it is in America.

There most certainly are gays in Iran, just not as visible or outspoken because of the abuse they get.

You know, I've been called a lot of things in my life, but never a phenomenon.

It's illegal to homosexual in Iran, right? However I think there obviously gay people there, it's just that they're all concealing it. Not just because they want to, they must in order to not get killed over there.

Not all Muslims are like that :/ . Don't forget what you are; and realize that hating is something that you put up with think about that.

Ah you're right. I said that out of pure anger after seeing that picture and now I realize how irrational that comment was.

In Iran it is the religious leaders that run the country Ahmadinejad is mainly a figurehead. As stupid as his comments he says are, most of the time he is speaking to the Iranian people as propaganda.

Swamp is right. The branch of Islam that is represented by Iran, and Saudi Arabia is only one tiny interpretation of Islam. Less than 100 years ago less that 1% of Muslims believed in this ideology (the exact figure isn't known, but it's tiny). Fundamentalist Islam began in Saudi Arabia, as the practices of a single small tribe. Unfortunately this was the tribe that first found the oil.

They rose to become today's Saudi royal family and used their billions to spread their reactionary beliefs throughout the Muslim world. Blame the fundamentalists, they're no better than the Nazies, but don't say Islam.

I hate to lecture, but generalizations piss the hell out of me. Though I've gotta say, I don't think a picture has ever made me more sad.

Ahmadinajad has a cool name. It's funny seeing Sarah Palin use him in a debate also, as she hasn't a fucking clue what shes on about.

Meh, it's not worth worry about, the middle east's fundamentalist regieme will collapse when the last drop of oil is gone. You'll see.

Wow...that's a very disturbing picture. It's friggen sick!
If I lived there, chances are I'd be hung, too. I just can't sit there and shut up.
My whole heart goes out to those boys and everyone else that has to deal with this.
While we may think we have it bad here,in America,(prop8,gay marriage fight,etc...) we don't have to worry about dying!
All I can think of is...OMG!

    I've seen enough hangings-

it's hard just to wrap my head around that at one point in the beginnings of America, people literally hung people that were accused of witchcraft(even 2 dogs were hung),
but this- how is this even tolerated? Did people just stand there and watch them get hung? Did the photographer just stand there? Just what goes on in that part of the world? UGH, ahagajauijakoljlemtlrtjmkl, i'm just mad.

is there anyone in EC that's in the Middle East at all?

I am just thankful that I don't live in a society where that is acceptable!
