I think it is as good as any other music. Don't get me wrong, I love pop music, but when people call rap "trash" and call Britney Spears "great" I get super angry. [P.S. I like Britney Spears, but i think all types of music are pretty much equal. It's all about the artists.] |

There's been maybe 2-3 rap/hip-hop songs in the last 15 years that I've really enjoyed, and the last hip-hop album that was worth listening to was The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - which came out when I was 14.

| I really dislike it, to be honest. I'm not saying it sucks, I'm saying that I personally don't like listening to it.

| Guest Posts: n/a | I had alot of influence from my dad and he hated any sort of pop, hip-hop, rap music. Seriously when I got the Hanson album he tore it out of the cd player and threw in Dire Straits, Status Quo, The Eagles etc. I still haven't been able to throw that influence and still love it to this very day. So I have to say I don't like (not hate thats too strong) hip-hop |

(The term hip-hop was about a decade away.) It was one of the very first ones - "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang. I actually thought it was neat, but in a novelty sort of way. My brother became a huge fan, and started buying a lot of it, so I got to hear a lot of the early rap stuff as it happened - Grandmaster Flash, early Run DMC, Treacherous Three. I did like it, but it was always "spice not meat" - something I listened to on occasion rather than full-on. When rap sort of exploded into the mainstream, I sort of lost interest. Most of it sounded lazy and dull. I'd occasionally hear things I really liked - the first De La Soul album and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy disc are two of my favorites - but I never did get really into it as a separate entity. I haven't listened to much recent big-name stuff unless it's huge enough to enter my sphere (Kanye), but I've enjoyed listening to local hip-hop acts. I've found that since they don't really have to worry about going multi-platinum, they can follow their muse a lot closer. There's actually some good hip-hop coming out of Denver, which surprised me. >>>when I got the Hanson album... Shame. The Hanson albums are all quite good. ![]() Lex |

Age: 18 Posts: 2,066 Join Date: Feb 2008 | There's only a few rappers/rap groups I like. I enjoy Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, Fort Minor, Styles of Beyond, T.I., Run DMC, and Flo Rida. That's it. Pop music isn't bad, some of it. I just like to listen to what sounds good.

Mostly because that's what I was exposed to when I was younger, it's agreed that not ALL Hip Hop or Rap music isn't good, but it can also be said that all Rock, or All Country music isn't all that great either right? My philosophy on music is if it catches my interest i'll like it. No matter what musical genre its in, if i like it i like it, its that simple. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Love it. I am such a top 40 slut. One of my favorite things (and don't think I'm racist) is when I am walking down the street and listening to some rap or hip-hop and I walk by a black guy. It just feels like I'm in on the "secret". |

So I love a lot of hip-hop and rap. Stuff like 'Pop, Lock and Drop It' or 'Cyclone' are high on my list.

I mostly listen to smooth jazz, and a lot of instrumental stuff from movies. I'm not sure about the difference between rap, hip hop and r&b. All I know is that I like certain musicians like Lauryn Hill, Black-Eyed Peas, and Boyz II Men. There's nothing wrong with a little rhythm in everyone's lives. Of course, I don't particularly like listening to the lyrics of songs about having sex with lots of women, since I can't really share that aspiration... I like to robot dance too, if that makes any difference...

(1tym, Epik High, Se7en, Rain, etc.) I looove pop though, it pretty much dominates my music library. I have been known to like a few English rap/hip-hop/r&b songs, but for the most part they just don't sit very well with me. But I don't hate any genre of music. I'm also starting to get into more rock-style stuff. But one thing I can NOT get into is metal. >.< |
