Wow-I'm surprised that no one has posted something about this yet, as AIDS/HIV is a problem that concerns us more than other people. We need to get out there and fight this disease, but of course we should be careful not to discriminate against those unfortunate enough to have it. http://www.worldaidsday.org/ AIDS/HIV really really scares me. Anything with blood does, but we all need to be careful! Respect and Protect!! I've seen a lot of people wearing the litte red ribbons today. The White House even has a giant one on it. I meant to get one, but the place where they were selling them at school isn't a place really ever go by, so I forgot. http://www.worldaidscampaign.org/static/en/ http://www.unaids.org/en/default.asp
I didn't forget I made red ribbons over break to foist upon my peers today during school. I handed out a good number of them and was getting a lot of positive support for the event (i.e. no negative comments or sarcastic/insensitive remarks) *thumbs up!*
They gave out T-shirts today at school. I wore it immediately to my next class and told people to be aware, or beware! I brought it up like every three minutes.
My teacher mentioned putting this in the school newspaper, but considering we have to get it approved through the principal, we couldn't. He would never go for it. But, it was good that she cared.
Sorry for the double post everyone. It's mostly stereotype. Everyone who is engaged in sexual activities is at risk for contracting HIV (it develops into AIDS). Many people say, "oh it's a gay disease', because it's mostly passed from gay dude to gay dude by anal sex. Anyone of any gender, sexual preference, age, race, religion can get HIV.
In the 1st world, HIV is more prevalent amongst gay men. I think the main reason is because in days gone by there was a lot of unprotected sex amongst gays. Because lets face it people were only educated about how to prevent STDs and pregnancy in heterosexual intercourse. Why bother wearing a condom...its not like he's going to get pregnant. So blokes were having sex with eachother and not realising the implications. But actually in 3rd world countries HIV is now more of a problem in heterosexual people. Reason....unprotected sex and vertical transmission from mother to child.
I figured instead of my usual Tim Hortons coffee at work yesterday I'd swing by a nearby Starbucks because I heard they were donating money to help fight AIDS in Africa. While I think it is great they are doing it, I was a little miffed when I found out that I had to buy a $5.05 + tax coffee. And then out of that $5.05 only a nickel was being donated. To be fair, the Espresso Truffle I had was really tasty but it wasn't $5 tasty.
Actually, in my community, the demographic is switching to heterosexual females, largely African-American and Hispanic. Its nearly 50-50 now. That is a huge change. It means the gay community is doing a better job protecting themselves and the hetero community is not taking it seriously.
I wasn't here,otherwise I'd post something 'cause I'm also in anti-AIDS group. Use CONDOMS!
