my son came home from school yesterday and related a conversation/debate he had in school, the topic was that "straight and gay are both offensive" have any of you heard this? my question is so what terms/lables do you use.
well, it was a bunch of teenagers so im not sure. it was the first time i'v ever heard of it and the last part crossed my mind, so what do u say....... if you can't say gay/straight.:bang:
Neither is offensive to me...Someone calls me gay then all they are doing is telling me what I already know!
Gay, I feel, is the least offensive word out there to define that orientation. Homosexual feels cold and clinical, and most of the others are derogatory. I've never heard of anyone being offended by the word "gay." That said, I do have a friend who dislikes the term "straight." I think in her head, it immediately brings up the idea that "straight" is somehow better. I can see it, but it doesn't bother me too much, personally. It's kind of like "right-handed" vs "left-handed" for me -- left in my language means clumsy, and right means, well, right (positive connotation). That doesn't mean I take offense when someone says I'm left-handed.
To take offence is a choice and you'll find there are very few things thst don't offend at least someone. Happy days
If "gay" and "straight" are offensive, I'd love to know what they think of "faggot" and "breeder". Lyana sums it up very well. I suppose you could refer to it as same-love and oppo-love (opposite), but that just sounds like an elementary school kid's vocabulary. Then again...
