Hey ya'll, I was just struggling with being connected to WiFi but nothing was loading (or was loading incredibly slow) and it was so frustrating haha. So that led me to wonder if people would prefer having a really slow connection or none at all?

I live in a rural environment and have an extremely slow connection. I would still say that having a connection albeit slow, is still better than having none at all.

Neither, both equally make me want to throw my computer out of the window and smash it into tiny pieces- doing so would be incredibly satisfying.

It's funny I was the last of my friends to have dial up internet (until 2007) and it was slow as hell but I think I'd pick it over having nothing at all, even if I would spend the whole time angry and frustrated

I guess slow is better than nothing.

My first experience of having Internet where I lived was dial-up. It was significantly slower than what I was used to using elsewhere. The only way it was bearable was using KDE Konqueror web browser, which (then, at least) could be set to not load any images, but allow one to load an individual image. As much as a pain as the slow speed could be, however, it was wonderful having Internet available on my own desk 24/7...

I'm an all or nothing kind of gal so nah. I'd rather be forced to find another activity than raise my blood pressure over a buffering video.

I might have you beat on that one. I only first got dial-up sometime during 2007. Crazy choice, but it was the most practical (maybe only) choice for the living situation of the time. It was also clearly going to be a short lived adventure--it was pretty clear that I'd be moving sooner rather than later. And it was good enough for what I absolutely needed, such as basic e-mail.

What's more crazy is that I gave thought to dial-up when I moved to my current place in 2009. Maybe I'm a masochist... But the prices were seductively low--under $10/month IIRC with my old dial-up provider if one paid for several months. And, again, dial-up would keep me connected to basic e-mail. In the end, though, I ended up with cable. Dial-up would have worked for the very basics, but better speed was appreciated (and allowed me to do more). Plus the cable service was only a little more than a phone line with dial-up. (It was at this point I ended up switching phone service to a cell phone.)

Short term, like a few hours, I'd choose no connection. But longer term I'd need Internet so I'd choose slow

dial up download speed is also around that point, so i'll probably stick with SLOW

I am on a business FIOS line. Im in a rural area and its the only connection I can get.
My speeds are 49 mps up and 41 mps down.
but I do remember the old 14.4 dial up days and I would never want to go back to that.

    I'm from the days of 24k dial-up.

    Click a link.

    Go use the bathroom.

    Click a link.

    Wash the dishes.

    Click a link.

Pet the cat for a while.

    Click a link.

Smoke a cigarette (they were cool then).

    Click a link.

Lurk a MUCK (we still have those, BTW).

    Click a link.

    Look through your porn stash.

    Download a song.

    Catch up on your reading.

    Download a movie.

Spend the night visiting a friend.

You just dealt with it. It was what we had. If you have a slow connection, then just have a book available to graze through while you're waiting for things to load. If you are waiting a very long time, then maybe spend the time tidying up. It's no big deal.

I loved it when a download would stop at 26%, after waiting 12 hours, and the reason is... your connection died last night, but when it reconnected, the download needed a manual confirmation to resume; and since you weren't there to do it then, you do it now... and waste another day, LOL.

Hands down a slow connection over no connection. The internet is important in daily life these days.

I moved out at the beginning of May, we still don't have internet and it is pretty awful. I don't have access to things I need without the internet, plus ive used 18gb of data this month.

I remember a while back there was some sort of movement to have internet classified as a basic utility, along the lines of hyrdo and stuff. I wonder if that is still a thing.

Google is already planning to take up the challenge, just as their first step to overthrowing the defective US government and establishing themselves an imperial Corporate regency to serve in the place of our fallen democracy. If we're going to have a despot, it might as well be an enlightened despot.

Depends on how slow... If it takes a three minutes or more to load a page or refresh, then it's better having no Internet. So I can go do something more productive.
