Any of you guys have pet rats? I have two wonderful girls named Onyx and Raven. I want to try to make some friends on here; and I figure my unusual pets are a great way to start <3:icon_wink
I want a rat but my mom thinks they're creepy so I can't get any. Also I have a cat so it might not be safe I really like them though, they're cute.
Nope. But there are some living in our backyerd  ---------- Post added 31st May 2015 at 07:29 PM ---------- *yard
Yes! I had two, Lucy and Ethel, but Ethel died 2 weeks ago. Most people find my pet choice to be weird. I love having rats. They're smart and trainable.
Rats are the cutest but I have a cat and it wouldn't be the best idea to get a few of them. I love them though.
I used to have rats. Used to have all sorts. Rats, mice, tortoise, bearded dragons chameleons, tokay gecko, leopard gecko corn snake scorpions. And I loved them all
I have two doe rats atm: Ashe and Storm. Ashe is getting on a bit while Storm is quite young and energetic. I'll probably have to find another mate for her once Ashe has gone... D: such pesky critters. Their enthusiasm for everything is inspiration to me!
I love rats! I currently have 7 right now, although not all of them are actual pets-- only about 3 of them have been trained for handling, but a lot of people have no idea that rats can even be trained! I've had rats that basically lived on my shoulders, sitting up there like a little familiar, who would then wander back to their open cage to potty and come when called. They're like miniature, ultra-portable dogs, really, with kind of a grab-bag of personality traits. Some sneeze, some chitter, some hop, some... don't do much except chill.
Yeah, my mom used to be the same way. Took me four years to get her to let me get one. Well, maybe when you move out you can get one if you still want ---------- Post added 31st May 2015 at 12:44 PM ---------- Oh my God! I almost named my two girls Lucy and Ethel! Gotta love Lucille Ball ^^ I'm sorry you lost your girl though I lost my parakeet Spunky a year ago and it still aches to think about him. They are SO smart! have you seen Debbie Ducommun's work with them? ---------- Post added 31st May 2015 at 12:49 PM ---------- Hahaha, that's a pretty good sum of it! I got two completley polar opposite personalities with my girls; One of them's a snugglebug, and she LOVES climbing underneath my shirt and curling up in my arms while I pet her. The other's like a little jet; she's always going somewhere (usually somewhere she shouldn't be going) And I love the hopping. I honestly think it's the cutest thing on the planet xD ---------- Post added 31st May 2015 at 12:50 PM ---------- I'm sorry you lost your ratties I don't think you truly get over the loss of a beloved pet, they truly are our families ---------- Post added 31st May 2015 at 12:51 PM ---------- Wow! I'm jealous. I literally want to be like that when I'm through with high school and college and all; I want all of those! I really want a rosy boa more than anything, they're such gorgeous snakes! ---------- Post added 31st May 2015 at 12:53 PM ---------- Hahaha, yeah I can see how that might be a problem. Well, perhaps in the very far future you could get a pair, unless of course you get another cat xD
We had a pair of rats about 5 years ago. They didn't live much longer than 2 years (one got a nasty tumor and had to be put down; the other didn't live more than a month without him). Sweet little guys...we miss them.
Raven, thanks for the condolences. I really miss her. That's so funny your thought of the same names. I love Lucille Ball, in fact I Love Lucy is one of my favorite shows. I have not seen Debbie Ducommun's work. I will definitely check it out. Sorry toy lost parakeet. Pets make such an imprint on ours hearts.
I'm not right now, but I want to be one after my cousin had one for a few years until he (the furry little one) passed.
Interesting how many people have rats! Didn't expect so many. Ever since the bubonic plague I've kept away from them!
LOL Austin, don't get us wrong. I don't think any of us would approach a random rat we saw on the street (any more than we'd attempt to cuddle a feral dog or cat). But as pets, rats are extremely intelligent, easy to care for, and very social (they actually show love and affection toward their owners...or anyone, usually...they *like* people).
there is a cute guy here on EC called...... god i can't remember his name T_T but he loves his rat ^_^ i will dig my friends list and see him for you .... EDIT : found him http://emptyclosets.com/forum/members/mousekeeper-50316.html mouse keeper !
