    Hey guys,

so you may or may not be aware, but the magazine Men's Health is having a contest to see who's going be on the cover of their reader edition, and currently a guy named Aydian is on top.... if he wins, he'll be the first trans* man to be featured on the cover of Men's Health and that's pretty freaking fantastic. I follow him on Instagram - he's a great guy with a huge heart and he's also gorgeous.

    Vote for him here!!

I wish him and everyone else running the best. I think three other trans guys are in the running for the top vote as well. Either way, I hope one of them win.

This is still going on? I thought I voted on this last year. Anyways, I hope he wins! That would be awesome for a trans guy to win it.

So I was just reading about him and found myself on a blog written by lesbians who are apparently really, really angry at him for...something. I'm so confused. :confused2:

Ugh, are you talking about Dirt? She's a crazy TERF who say trans men are "betraying their femininity" and trans women are "men who pretend to be women". Her and all those other psychos are out of their damn minds.

I'm in two minds on this.

Obviously there is the side about this being good for transrights.

But then at the same time does this not feed into an idea of transmen having to look a certain way or be muscular to be accepted as real men?

There does seem be a bit of a consensus from what I have seen that growing a beard or gaining muscles are "important steps" or milestones for transmen, which seems ignorant to the fact that even amongst bio-males facial hair and muscles are not genetic guarantees.

To be honest I'm critical of MensHealth as a publication anyway, I just hope Aydian is doing this for the right reasons: for his own satisfaction and not to seek validation he does not need.

IMO, I don't think this an outline for what it means to be a transman or what you should look like; conformity and what not. I can understand why people are getting passionate about this, both in defense and offense. Personally, I see a transman being on the cover as a message to a world that doesn't understand us (to the point where things get violent) that we're not all that different from them, that we're like everyone else.

Aydian seems very genuine with why he's running, which isn't for an ego boost or anything like that.

It's Men's Health, not GQ or something else, so it's all about bodies.

How does the stereotypical perfect male body look like?

    Bingo...

I'm not a MHs reader so I won't vote, but I'm glad 'cause of the step forward in terms of trans visibility. Also it's a positive image... Kind of... Well, at least it will look like being trans doesn't mean to be unhealthy, which is a very common idea among some cis out there. Injections and HR sound scary to them.
