Okay, so like... I tend to just stay away from media, as they just exaggerate to get views... But I've been hearing a LOT of bad things about Fox news. Or just that it's stupid, or super conservative, etc. My dad watches it, all the time. It's like the only channel he gets his news from to my knowledge. And if you've read some of the posts I've made, he's kind of a hyper conservative jerk and a little trans/homophobic. ._. And sure, I hate O'Reilly's guts, but... can anyone give an example of why it's so bad, or worse than any other exaggerating media outlet?
I have parents like that, only my mother is worse than my father. My fathers more conservative economically than socially, and my mothers the other way. Both of them however only got their national or world news from FNC (or CBN) when I was growing up. The other cable news channels were locked out, like they were porn or something. I don't like him or his show but I've read "Killing Lincoln" and thought it was okay. Its hard to give specific examples because (most of the time) they don't outright lie, they just mislead. You can easily search for examples where they've gotten bare facts wrong, but then so has MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, regular NBC. The problem is when you don't have all the bare facts, or when some bare facts are presented but not others, so you paint a picture in the viewers eye of something that isn't true. Also some facts in a story are more relevant than others, but by choosing carefully how you present the facts, you can claim to be fair but not really be fair. They have an obvious right wing republican conservative slant to the way they present a news story or have a panel discussion, but then so does MSNBC. What is galling is FNC claiming they are "Fair and balanced" which is a total lie..
I don't know about Fox news specifically but it's problematic to only watch/get information from one source only because the image you have of what's happening is dependant on what the makers of said show think.
You asked for examples of how bad Fox "News" is: Jon Stewart doesn't disappoint in this little exposé:

I think it's because, this forum in prticular, along the younger age group in general, tends to be more liberal. Thus, Fox News, a channel with a conservative slant will get attacked by those groups of people, who, consequently, will also more easily ignore news biased with a liberal slant. Of course, if something is biased to your own views, you won't care. I've never watched Fox News (at least, not in years and years), but I'm sure there's news sources with a liberal slant that would be objectively just as bad at "exaggerating" as Fox News.
In a normal world, I would call this a fair statement, one must concede that there are "liberal" media, the classic being The New York Times, for example, but we do not live in a normal world, the political hackery that passes for "news" in that network goes way beyond regular bias, this is nothing less than propaganda for the business class. Fox News is not news, it is a worldview that selects what it wants and by the medium it uses (television, probably the worst medium for critical thinking or any kind of depth), magnifies and distorts events to suit their own agenda. I'm not saying that this is not done on the other side, but it is absolutely a matter of degree, and in the case of Fox, it is extreme.
MSNBC could be the "liberal equivalent" of Fox News. Both score low in fact-checking reports; they are in many ways two sides of the same coin. But that doesn't mean all news sources are like that. All news sources are biased, but some are worse than others.
examples? for instance, the same story covered by the New York Times and then by Fox news. Just to see how far apart they really are.
It can get out of hand sometimes, but it is almost necessary given how left-wing the rest of the media is. MSNBC is just as bad. CNN leans to the left too but is probably the most neutral choice you'll find on tv.
While MSNBC's fact check numbers aren't as impressive as they'd like, it's a bit of a reach to call then the liberal equivalent of Fox. They still had twice as many statements fact checked as completely true as compared to Fox. Fact-Checking Site Finds Fox News Only Tells the Truth 18 Percent of the Time As you can see, CNN is the most truthful of the three main news sources, and that's why they're the one I use when looking for things to research (even though I still do my own fact checking, looking at places such as TYT, Al-Jazeera, BBC and NPR. I do however watch Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.
They only really report things that benefit them. They had HOURS of coverage for the bakery in Indiana that had a Gofundme up. Because of so much media attention, they raised over 800k in 2 days. They don't report things that would benefit LGBT rights... do you think they will talk about how LGBT people are being stripped of their rights? It's not just what they report that is bad, but the fact that people believe that garbage makes it all the worse.
All news broadcasts have their pros and cons, but Fox edges them out as, in my opinion, the worst of them. Why? Well, I dislike Sean Hannity's attitude towards people. But he isn't the primary reason Fox gets the worst-nudge, it's Ann Coulter. She... wow...
