So one or two days ago I was hanging out at a friend's house. Her parents came home and we went to them. She had a very serious expression on her face, and here's how the conversation went: Friend: Mom, dad.... Can we talk for a moment? Her mom: Sure, sweetheart. What is it? Friend: Maybe you should sit down for this... Her dad: For God's sake honey, you're making me anxious. Is everything alright?? Friend: I have discovered something about myself. I didn't tell you because it's kind of a big deal and I didn't know how you'd react... Her mom: You know your father and I love you very much. What is it? Friend: Okay. Here goes. Mom, dad.... I'm.... I'm straight. For a moment there was a silence, and then her parents started laughing. Her mom: Oh are you sure it's not just a phase? Her dad: Young lady, you'll burn in hell for this! How can we ever explain this to your grandparents? They will be so judgemental! Her mom: Oh lord, I cannot have a straight girl in my house! Go and pack up your stuff!! Her dad: And you Ali? Are you one of her lot too?? At this point I then told her parents I'm bi, but I absolutely loved their reaction to this!!! It was awesome
How funny! Wouldn't it be awesome if more parents reacted this way when their kids came out as gay/bi/trans!? My dad was pretty funny when I told him. I just came out and said, "Dad, I'm bi." He looked at me for a split second and said, "COOL! I wish I was. It would double my odds of finding someone!" It was awesome! You're friend and her folks sound amazing. Thanks for sharing!!!
