After browsing the news area of the forum, I decided, you know, I'm curious as to what the American users of this forum think of their Presidents.

Anyone outside of the United States, you can still participate, as I'd like to know an non-American's perspective on our leaders.

Which U.S. President do you like best?
Which U.S. President do you like the least?

My favorite president is probably Teddy Roosevelt. I also really like Abraham Lincoln, flawed as he was. I can't imagine how the Civil War would've gone if there had been another president during it (and I firmly believe that it would've happened with or without Lincoln). Plus, he hunted vampires :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Least favorite: Andrew Johnson's blundered Reconstruction and opposition to the Fourteenth Amendment puts him low on my list.

I agree with this. Would add Andrew Jackson to my favorites. Sure, he had some issues following the Supreme Court (Indian Removal Act), but he was a tough sonofabitch that tried to fight for the people and was a no-nonsense guy.

Jackson also beat the holy hell out of a would-be assassin. That amuses me.

He's also known for not tolerating bullying banks, which I find admirable.

What really is bizarre about Jackson is, his adopted son. After he did all that... yeah... truly a complex individual, though maybe for the wrong reasons.

I'd say that my favorite President is either Franklin Roosevelt or John F. Kennedy. Rounding up the list would be the Founding Fathers Presidents (Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison), Lincoln, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Harry S Truman, Jimmy Carter (mainly because of his philanthropy after his Presidency), Dwight Eisenhower, and Teddy Roosevelt.

As for my list of most disliked Presidents, the list gets pretty long. As for worst I'd say that Andrew Johnson was the worst, followed by Andrew Jackson, George W Bush, Nixon (minus the okay things he did like set up the EPA. Who would have thought it? A Republican that cares about the environment!), Buchanan, Fillmore, Polk and Reagan.

I don't know too much about American presidents but I think the majority are probably better than Stephen Harper, hooray for bad leadership. But as for one of your presidents that I hate I have to go with good ol' George W. he was just the worst. (Seriously how the actual :***: did you guys end up electing him twice?) Actually can we trade you Stephen Harper for Bill Clinton? I'd ask for Obama but that would be a raw deal.

Taking into consideration what time period they lived in, the worst if by far George W. Bush. He didn't do one good thing for us.
I guess Lincoln and Washington were the best.

I don't much like Bush either, but to say he didn't do one good thing, that's a bit extreme. If you mean for the United States, maybe. But one thing he did do was get behind the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which has contributed to saving millions of lives.

I can dog Bush all day, but I'll give the man props when he's earned them.

  11. Best ones for me were Clinton (balancing the budget), Lincoln (had an anti-slavery policy), and George Washington (set the standard for neutrality and free trade).

Worst ones were John Adams for infringing on our First Amendment right to free speech with the Alien and Sedition acts, Thomas Jefferson because although he paid down the national debt, his embargo nearly ruined the U.S economy and he's a hypocrite for speaking against slavery but never bothered to free his own slaves; and Ronald Reagan for tripling our national debt with his star wars program.

    Best: In no particular order:

    -FDR
    -John F. Kennedy
    -Lyndon B. Johnson
    -Woodrow Wilson

    Worst:

-Ronald Reagan (Br far the one I feel is most evil, and planed the festering seeds that would give us the malignancies of the both Bushes)
    -George W. Bush
    -George HW Bush

We elected him twice because we are masochists.

Actually, time #1 was, at best, a close election. There was a real problem in FL--very close there, and it set off a nightmare deciding who had won. And...I suspect that Al Gore probably lost a certain number of votes because of who he was. He didn't have the right charisma, and I suppose some people were just tired of the Clinton years, and wanted a change.

Time #2 has me scratching my head. Bush deserved to lose as far as I'm concerned. The only explanation I can think of is something that people just felt like "we might as well stick with the devil we know--it'll only be 4 more years."

In all honesty, John Kerry would have been only slightly better.

My personal favorite President is slightly ironic, considering how much I can't stand the South. My favorite President is Lyndon Baines Johnson. Politically my idols are LBJ and his fellow Texan, Governor Ann Richards who served from 1991-1995. Not only was she famous for saying George H.W. Bush was born with a silver foot in his mouth, but her wit and humor were absolutely devastating.

That's curious, because he's also my personal favorite.

I also love the way he talks.

Have you ever heard that recording where he's ordering those pants, and says he needs 'em let out? From a white house recording, and he uses some colorful language

Didn't Johnson allegedly murder JFK. I am not assuming he did but it is one of those conspiracies. I think many movies make out Johnson to be asshole though

That's just another wild conspiracy. Johnson was an asshole and that was his best quality as president-that's how you have to get stuff done in politics. That's something Bill Clinton and Barack Obama don't have-they just let themselves get walked on by their opponents. LBJ would stare you down and intimidate you into voting for his proposals. That's how you get things done in politics, and that's a quality you must have to succeed, though you can't show that side to the public. That's what the magic of TV ads and money are for.

LBJ probably would've been #1 for me without taking Vietnam into consideration

I have to agree. He did a lot domestically, but Vietnam really dramatically reduces my respect of his administration.
