I just want to know what kinds of views the people on EC have. Even though I know that the majority of people on here are pretty much liberal, I still want to see which side you guys are on.

I would say that I'm pretty conservative(shocking, right? I mean, how many gay conservatives do you know?). Sure, I do agree with some ideas from the liberals side but overall, it just doesn't appeal to me. There's too much political correctness on that side and if you don't agree with them or their agenda you're automatically labelled a racist, bigot, homophobe, etc. A lot of them don't seem to take too kindly to those with a different opinion than they do and that just keeps me away from ever wanting to associate with them.

I could go on about this but it's just some of the issues I have with them. But enough about me, what are your opinions about either party?

Alright I just want to add one thing, a conservative in the US is not the same as being a conservative in Europe. Being socially conservative is very common in Europe. In Switzerland for example, in many places it's easier being gay than being a foreigner.

I am a conservative towards immigration only. It's honestly just getting out of hand and it's already creating conflict in different pockets of the country. I don't even know if Geneva can be considered a part of Switzerland any more. Massive influx is creating problems in transportation, housing, prices, and urban spaces.

No, I don't believe this "anything goes" attitude is healthy in any way. Some gears need grinding. I might need to polish a couple of my ideas, but the fundamentals probably won't change.

In all other aspects of self-determination and whatnot, I'm liberal.

Most of the time, I do label Conservatives as racists, bigots, homophobes, etc, because at the time I call them that, they are acting... Racist, bigoted, and/or homophobic. Shocker, right.

Most fiscal Conservatives I have no problem with; it's a certain type of Conservative I just can't stand... Maybe I should stop typing.

Well technically you don't have to fall into either of those political traps. It kinda unnerves me when people try to place me into a group of people, because I don't fully agree with either's agenda. So pretty much just call me an independent, cause I don't give a damn.

I'm definitely a democrat in American terms, but I find it hard to align myself, considering that both sides suck, but it's picking the lesser of two evils :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. If you want to go deeper, I'm an socialist, probably highly influenced by my intersectional feminist views. Either way, all that matters to me is that everyone feels accepted entirely for who they are and are treated equally, whether gender, sexuality or ethnicity (e.g, one looove). So, if your conservative leaning and you believe that, to me, who cares?

I am moderate when it comes to both conservative and liberal issues. I believe in gay rights, strong border protection, strong foreign policy and so on. I am basically in the middle of everything lol and a huge amount of respect for politicians who are willing to work across aisle on some issues and get things done but I am not gonna ever vote for fa outright homophobic candidate ever. A moderate republican could get my vote but I prefer moderate democrats but in my state of Minnesota I have no choice but to vote for for full blown democrats such as Klobuchar and Franken. It is personally sad how moderates are so hated in this country on both sides of the political spectrum and sadly we losing the moderates in congress because people have gonna to far to the left or right.

My partner is dead because of sequestration.

    https://www.pancan.org/advocate/sequestration/

If it hadn't been for congress's cuts to medical research, there is more than a possibility that there would have been a treatment available for his form of pancreatic cancer, which Americans continue to die from. It is a very painful form of cancer, and I single-handedly nursed him through it until, at the insistence of the hospice workers, we had him confined to a bed, in which he spent the last two weeks of his life, which he had to do (and I had to watch him go through) because of the absence of a death with dignity law.

I also have a nephew suffering from cystic fibrosis. His chances of living past his 30's are sharply dependent on whether or not we can get the government to make a larger investment in developing a cure for the illness. A cure for CF is not some pie-in-the-sky fantasy. It is clearly obtainable, but actually developing drugs and getting them to the market is expensive. There is a severe funding problem. The thing is, the government is hemorrhaging money paying for the short-term treatments that are presently available. His mother's bedside table is fucking pharmacy, and SHE is unable to work a steady job because she has to constantly be at home in order to take care of him. She's trying her best, in spite of that, to set up a home-based business selling oils, but that can only bring in but so much money.

As far as race issues, whether you like it or not, it's still a crime in this country to be black. I have a sort of coarse, "politically incorrect" description for how our justice system works. "White boys get rehab; black boys get prison." If you look at any rehab facility, it's a great sea of white faces. Mind you, I have had family members who were beneficiaries of that dirty game. I know this first-hand. Racism is simply a fact of life in this country.

Also, no matter how much research turns up evidence that mixed-income communites DO work and that integration helps reduce contagion, the GOP still won't embrace the idea. It really seems to me like they are being ignorant on purpose, which I see as trashy.

And really, I see racism simply as trashy. It's not like racism is something that only white people do. In mostly black countries, they discriminate against specific African ethic groups, and they do so brazenly and openly. This is a major problem in Kenya, and yes, it's still trashy there, just as it is here. Kenyans are, believe it or not, somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun. They are really shockingly classist and amazingly conservative. I see this as to blame for many of their problems.

I've never given much thought about who I align with because I'm not really into politics but I guess I'm more liberal. I believe in LGBT equality, gender equality, pro choice, and I'm pretty much against all religion. I should point out I'm okay with God, I just don't like the religious aspect.

"So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays."

    -- Jethro Tull

He had a lot of ideas like that. Hehehe, a lot of people don't identify with him as well as when he was at his height, but Jethro Tull is an amazing musician. His flute solos are intense and passionate. A lot of people today, including Paul McCartney, have those kinds of views.

It's funny, because both sides do that. The only real difference is, what they're judging on and bitching about.

As for me, I'm too radical for the Left and too meticulous for the Right. But my views tend to go like this:

Social issues, the Left would want me. Economic issues, for the most part, with some exceptions (welfare, Social Security, financial aid, etc), the Right would want me.

Foreign policy, I tend to follow a Jeffersonian approach: Trade with all, ally with nobody. Basically, take care of you and your people, and stop getting involved in ridiculous nonsense, be it economic or militarily. This doesn't mean ignore the world, that is setting yourself up for trouble.

I can fit in with almost any political party, due to how all over the place I can be, which is both a blessing and a curse. But if you asked me to pick just one political party, well, the answer is simple...

I'd have to vote for mine, LOL. 2020 cannot get here soon enough...

Very left-wing. Avid supporter of the Dutch Green party.

Not a communist though, in case some people still think left=communism.

I guess I'm a liberal by most definitions of the word, but probably not as left-leaning as a lot of people on this site - at least, not in all aspects. Most gay men on here seem very passionate about women issues but that isn't an area that I concern myself with much, and I definitely would not vote for the Green Party.. ever - at least, not while they remain a protest party and are able to get away with completely outrageous, blatantly unworkable policies because they know they will never have the chance to actually govern.

Racism really fucks me off - there is literally not a thing in this world that fucks me off more than racism. Not even homophobia annoys me as much. I don't even know why. Outdated, sexist views really annoy me too - which is why I can't really stand watching dramas set in the 1960s - the views are so alien to everything that I was brought up with, I just want to punch the television set.

If an opinion stated is racist, or homophobic, or sexist, or whatever else, then I certainly won't respect it. Conservatives seem to think that 'liberals' will tolerate everything - well, no. I don't tolerate people who actively try to restrict my rights - they can fuck off.

Out of those two I guess I'm a liberal, but way more to the left than liberal in US means. I guess I'm a mix of different left/red & green parties. I'm also a feminist!

I like to say I'm somewhere in the middle. I tend to feel how I want about different issues and I'm not sure how my mixtures of opinions would really be labeled. I feel like as I get older, I get more conservative. I'd still say I'm fairly liberal-leaning on many issues. However, I feel like the really extreme liberals drive me farther and farther away from their side. Honestly, they drive me nuts! As you mentioned, they can't accept other peoples' opinions nor do they seem to have the capability to try to understand them, because they're always right. They're rigid in their beliefs, and some would say that it is good, but really it just means they're closed minded. Issues as complex as those affecting society have no solid answer, so it's interesting some people are so hardcore in believing they know best. Honestly, extreme conservatives are just as bad and drive me nuts too, but luckily I'm not exposed to them nearly as often as I am exposed to liberals, so they don't tend to get on my nerves as much.

Basically. I don't even want to associate with them. Nor do I really want to associate with some of the really wacky conservatives.

I think both the converatives and liberals suck equally, but in different ways. ( Talking strictly America here, I dunno enough about foreign politics to touch that )

It doesn't matter who's face you stick into political office they're gonna bow down to whoever really runs the show and do what they want. Obama wasn't really all that different from Bush. Gitmo is still open and the NSA has reached new levels of spying on its own people.

Nothing will change, and a two party political system is really just a constructed Us vs Them that keeps everyone too busy fighting tooth and nail against one another to notice that either way you go you're getting screwed.

This is why I choose not to vote. My vote wouldn't make a difference about anything. No third party person is ever going to win in this country and I don't really see that big a difference between the two major parties.

You could say I'm socially liberal but fiscally conservative. In Brazilian politics I would definitely be labeled as a conservative.
If I were British, I would vote for the Tories. If I were American, I could vote for either party depending on their candidates.

I'm for tougher immigration rules in the US, but would welcome people who will become citizens and pay their taxes (and deport the lazy fuckers who were born here and live off the system). I also believe in American military superiority because despite what the world thinks, America keeps it together.

On the other hand I am obviously a super supporter of all LGBT, nay, human rights. I'm pro choice. I believe schools should be supported more and corporate interests and donations in politics should be abolished. I also strongly oppose people who say we need to make sure a prisoner is healthy enough for execution... Just like that inmate here in MA says she needs SRS.

Oh? So if I murder someone I can say being transgender made me do it now pay for my sex change? Fuck that, not with my tax money.

I guess I'm a moderate with some extreme views on both sides.
