All of the photos I took are in the convenient form of a Facebok album, but I don't think I can post that here unfortunately.

However, the main photos I want to share are these two. The first one for the fact that it was a pretty awesome sight even though the photo's pretty ordinary, and the second one for the photography aspect. Basically a week or two ago, the cresent moon and two nearby stars were in a particularly unusual position, and formed what appeared to be a smiling face in the sky. This is the best shot I could get without my telephoto lens, which I didn't have with me ( :frowning2: )

This next shot I just absolutely adore for the sake of the colours. I love the "old postcard" sort of look. For me, this photo could not have come out any better.

    Enjoy!

Taken at sunset around the same time as the smiling moon.
The only editing that I've done is adjusting the light levels (AV and warmth values) using a program called UFRaw. My camera takes all of it's photos in RAW format so I have to convert them to JPG files with this.

ahh I dunno about anyone else, but I can almost never see pictures people post (apart from the hot guy game thread:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:) which is really annoying :S

I'm sure they're brilliant though... I noticed the moon like that, but it was an internet smily cos of where I am (sideways lol)

wow they're beautiful, I love them. I've got a couple like that, I might get round to posting them.

ignore the messages from me about not being able to see them, it's just our weird internet.

Thanks for the comments all

On and off. I change builds all the time. My most recent was Ubuntu, but I had to go back to Windows to write some software. Now that I'm done with that, I'm thinking of giving openSUSE a go.

    Awesome

Wow. There really nice pics!!!!

  12. I really like the one with the green sky... Amazing color.

By the way, I'm fairly sure those aren't stars. I think they're Venus and Jupiter, Venus being the upper one.

That explains quite a bit. I thought they were oddly bright for stars, but I've never seen the two that close together, let alone beside the moon.

  14. Yeah, there was some big deal about how they won't be like that again for 50 years or something... "The three brightest night bodies" or something like that, all close together.

Yeah I saw it that night too, pretty awesome. Also someone said that in the US it looked like a frowning face, but I don't know if that was true or not

I was just going through National Geographic's Top 10 Most Viewed Photos of 2008 and the smiling moon one was featured as #9. It immediately reminded me of this thread. Even though it was already mentioned previously that the "stars" were in fact Venus and Jupiter, here is a link to the National Geographic article about it.
