Default Gays in politics

i was wondering if it's possible to be far right wing yet be gay, the only person who is openly gay and a politican of recent times was the guy running for london mayor who was liberal democrat candidate, ive been poking around on various party websites and ive descovered that the BNP doesn't stand against homosexuality for example(not that i can imagine any gay person would ever join) but does this mean that either gas are left wing or politics isnt for gays????

LGBTIQA politicians FTW! XD

There are many right wing gays. A good friend of mine (a gay male) loves Sarah Palin, a right wing radical. There are also several gay Republicans here on EC. Also, John McCain's Chief of Staff is/was gay.

It would be very difficult for a party against homosexuality to exsist. I am not speaking about members of a party but the party itself.

It all boils down to the word "Conservitive"

Look at Canada for example, our "Conservitive" government is more liberal than true Conservitive. Yet you will still not find an openly active gay man in that party ever. They are at the least anti-gay marrige if not total anti-gay in that party. If anyone else lives in Canada you might have heard the NDP (Socialist party! W00T! Thats who I voted for!) found an old VHS tape from a conservative Christmas party held in the current NDP building. The tape was HORRIBLE! All these people standing around drinking egg-nog and talking about Gay's are lessers, animals, and flies who carry aids. About how he hopes all the gays go die from butt-fucking and so on and so on. The sad part? That same man who said that is still in a government role. I cant even say some of the things he did. it was Horrible...

But! If your in Holland, or another country that is more Socialist than Canada/US they will have a version of the "Conservative" party that is border-line left wing. Im sure you will find openly gay people in those parties.

As for Canada / US? Give it another, say, 50 years? By then our cause will just be one for the history books, Gays and Straights will seem just the same. If only i was born 50 years later than i was...

But they're all closeted and vote incredibly anti-gay. Oh, and you forgot Charlie Crist, who's getting married because he needed a beard to try getting John McCain's VP pick.

In the U.S., though, Barney Frank and Tammy Baldwin (U.S. House of Representatives) are the only two national figures I can think of, but both are Democrats (the closest thing the U.S. has to liberals). There are a number of state people, though.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I must correct this.

The British National Party's policy is that gays are acceptable as long as they "keep it in private",.I think anyone should see right through that. Like any fascist party, the British National Party is against liberalism (and every other political ideology) so gays just won't be acceptable. I'd imagine that the rights of gays would go miles backwards if they were elected.

Many British National Party members (along with being convicted criminals) used to be members of the National Front; a groups which, along with being very racist, is homophobic and very public about it. It's undeniable because the National Front attended a gay pride march in Manchester to protest against what they call a "symptom of a sick society" and an "abomination". Many members of the British National Party are breakaways of the National Front, and even its leader Nick Griffin worked for the National Front before joining the British National Party.

Make absolutely no mistake, just because the British National Party don't say they would subjugate gays doesn't mean they wouldn't. It's highly likely that they would, because fascists should not be trusted. Many gays are leftist, simply because most parties on the left want to give more rights to gays.

The right is generally less accepting of gays than the left, and that pattern can be seen all around the world. For example, in France the Socialist Party is in favour of same-sex marriages - but the Union for a Popular Movement opposes them (it's a centrist-right party). And, of course, the Front National party in France is completely against homosexuality, abortion and euthanasia.

You can mix left and right, socialism and capitalism, liberalism and conservatism; but the far-right is never a morally acceptable stance and cannot possibly be justified. It's possible to be gay and on the right, but pure conservatism just leads to dissatisfaction, in my opinion.

The Conservative Party of the UK actually isn't incredibly anti-gay, which you seem to think. They're fairly balanced about it, and they even have gay members in high-ranking positions who are openly gay. For example, Nick Herbet is the Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for the Conservatives. And he has entered into a civil union with another man. Please get more information about the Party before you imply that it's homophobic.

i know in the netherlands conservatives are almost left wing according to the standards for eg. the US so a gay guy would join the most right wing group possible as long as they are not a christian party really but those aren't generally the most right wing so its kinda confusing
