What are things that are not normal but are not bad? This is inspired by my mom's fresh new anti-gay babbling, (yup, she's still seething over the supreme court ruling and we don't even live in the US, we live in Canada where it was already legal *faceplant*) What she kept trying to say was "Oh, it's not normal." First she tried to say that gays are bad because they can't reproduce, but then I brought up surrogacy and then she abandoned that arguement and ran straight for the "it's not normal" defense. So here I am, trying to make a list of things that are not normal but are not bad and here's what I have so far: Heterochromia (each eye is a different color) Little people (whose size and proportions are healthy) Quintuplets Heterosexual couples who choose to be childless Left-handedness Photographic memory Are there any other good ones I missed? Feel free to add more.
Saying those things "aren't normal" would be hurtful or offensive to some people, so you could use a different word like "uncommon" or "untypical". The only thing I can think of is a person of color with blue or green eyes, that certainly doesn't happen a lot, but there's nothing wrong with it.
it's not a personified thing but - Two different kind of flowers in the same tree.. it's not that usual but beautiful to eyes ..
Olympic athletes People with musical talent People with artistic talent Professional sports stars, singers, actors - virtually any of these who have won an award in their field because they are so good at it are doubly not normal Gandhi Dr. Martin Luthor King The CEO of virtually every major company on the planet Jesus Christ Buddha The Founding Fathers of the United States The Founders of Canada Virtually every human being who has ever been recognized for performing a heroic act Low infant mortality rates Women having the vote, reproductive rights, or any say in their treatment and opportunities in their life Democratic government Leonardo da Vinci Mozart Shakespeare Plato Einstein Thomas Edison All the various inventors, natural scientists, etc. who built the foundation of our current science and technology Alan Turing - gay and a genius and helped us win WWII. Etc. Our whole civilization exists because of the efforts of people who were not 'normal'. We routinely idolize and make heroes of people who are not 'normal'. We depend on people who are trained to run toward disaster rather than away (emergency responders), which is not normal. And so on. Hope this helps, Todd
If you really want to blow your mother's mind, say this: "Okay, being gay isn't natural. But neither are glasses/contacts or hearing aids. Having them is to defy God's intentions, so we should confiscate them and allow these individuals to live the life God, not man, expects." If she isn't religious, replace "God" with "nature". I always put assholes on hush mouth with this.
