I'm working on another piece for the paper, which has inspired this topic. Right now I'm addressing other things, allowing the whole same-sex marriage decision to cool off, before discussing that directly. But this isn't important...

You're tasked with coming up with 10 rules/laws/regulations, similar to the 10 Commandments. What 10 things do you select, and why?

As usual, humor and wit are most welcomed.

    1) You shall only express protest through peaceful means.

    2) You shall not steal.

    3) You shall not commit murder on anything - unless it is the utmost imperative necessity in order to survive, or in very adverse circumstances.

    4) Make strides to love yourself.

    5) Accept (but can disagree with) all walks of life that surround you.

    6) Practice altruism in moderation.

    7) Own up to your mistakes.

    8) Embrace (but don't take advantage of) the right to defend yourself.

    9) Do not commit self-harm nor suicide.

    10) Live with the vision to see better, and do better.

    2. Treat every one equally.
    3. Always refer to rules one and two.
    4. Always refer to rule three.
    5. Always refer to rule four.
    6. Always refer to rule five.
    7. Always refer to rule six.
    8. Always refer to rule seven.

    1. Act with compassion

    2. Harm others as little as possible

    3. Harm all creatures as little as possible

    4. Harm the earth as little as possible (plants, the soil, the water, the air)

    5. Avoid being consumed by greed

    6. Help others less fortunate

    7. Don't vote Republican

    8. Burn all books by Ayn Rand, not only for promoting selfishness and greed, but being boring, and horribly written; this will spare others much pain and suffering.

    9. Avoid acting like you know everything, and be modest as opposed to always having to be right; continue to question as opposed to displaying endless dogma; seek to be modest

    10. Turn your computer/video game off, and go outside for a few hours each day...you will be thankful in the future.

4.You shall never speak Bavarian for that is the language of the devil.

5.Be honest to yourself and others and stand up for your mistakes instead of making excuses all the time.

6.Treat others as you would like to be treated

7.Don't complain about a problem not solving itself without even giving an effort to solve it or asking others for help.

8.Long speeches about nothing ie. talking for the sake of others listening to you is hereby banned (unless you are me)

9.All rules and laws shall be made by the divine randomly me.

10.You shall not complain about these rules.Or maybe you should...you know what? Do whatever the hell you want.

    Maybe I'll overthink these...

I don't think I could do better than "The Nine Satanic Statements" or at least the first 8. I know it's a bit different from what you're asking, but it's basically what I agree with (even although I'm no longer a Satanist), and any commandments I come up with, would be saying very similar things.

    1. Aggression against others in any form ought to be considered wrong.
    2. "Aggression" may constitute any unprovoked act of physical or psychological violence against another "sentient" being (loosely defined and open for categorical debate); the constitution of which may in certain circumstances be debated.
    3. The above 2 assertions (or any such assertion of regarding morality, for that matter) cannot be taken as anything beyond personal opinion, because morality is in actuality absolutely subjective.
    4-10. Not needed.

I haven't had the chance to read her books, but I've studied her philosophy and don't find her principles to be bad. This killed me a little inside  lol.

    1. Understand that love does not judge.
    2. Don't claim to know more on a subject than someone who has studied it for longer than you have.

    3. Before crying "oppression", learn your history.
    4. Understand that what you think isn't so bad might be something traumatizing for someone else.
    5. Ideas are immortal. People are not. Therefore, it is people that need protecting, not ideas.
    6. Be prepared to answer the questions of your deepest fears. Chances are, you will have to.
    7. Being in a higher position isn't a bad thing, but hurting others to get there and hurting others while you're there is.
    8. If it's not your business, don't speak up about it.
    9. Stealing and rape are bad. No excuses.
    10. Yeah, so is murder. Not letting that slip.

    Fixed, LOL.

That still leaves you with one more, and you cannot think of an additional rule?

    10. \w/ .Get Radical. \w/

    Fair enough, you killjoys, LOL.

    How about this?

What is the most difficult of the 10 Commandments to keep? Which is most important to you?

    This is my second list.

    1. Yaoi
    2. Look at number 1
    3. Number 2 is better than 1
    4. Number 8 is in relation to number 7, which is inherently superior to number 2 (but not number 1)
    5. Look at number 1 again
    6. Double number 5 and then triple that with numbers 3, 1 and 10.
    7. Number 2 is better than number 3.
    8. Quadruple numbers 6 and 2.
    9. Shout number 1 in the context of number 6 in public. This act is inherently better than number 10.
    10. Numbers 2 through 9 are false, and then made true again because of the workings of numbers 6, 8 and 10.

    1. Love always comes first, and is the right reason to do anything. You should always act out of love.
    2. War is prohibited.
    3. Put yourself in the other person's shoes.
    4. Live and let live, and don't judge someone simply for being.
    5. Read in between the lines. What you see isn't always what's happening.
    6. Be prepared to go to great lengths for the people who matter, no matter how frustrating it is.
    7. Be honest.
    8. Be loyal.
    9. When you meet someone both honest and loyal, do not let go of them. They will be the best kind of friend to you.
    10. When in doubt, always refer to rule number 1.

This post reminded me of a song by East Forest called 10 Laws. It's interesting to think about.

As for mine... and I'm surprised I've never actually done this. While I could just put the "canned" Christian answer and say the 10 Commandments, I'll do something other than those (though no offense to those who cited that as their answer).

    1. Do no harm
    2. Love others more
    3. All or nothing
    4. Be a child
    5. Never lose hope
    6. Stay curious
    7. Feel
    8. Always be prepared
    9. Have no shame
    10. Accept what is

Probably any/all of the 10 Laws I listed would be the hardest for me to keep, which is why they are so important. Though these specific ones I just thought of now, but I suppose accurately reflect some of what I believe.

    What about yours, Kaiser?

    1. As one experiences trials and hardships in life, one will naturally gain more hearts.
    2. Do not underestimate the sea.
    3. Always remember that the wind blows in the direction of the arrow.
    4. With one's belongings comes a need to keep track of them and keep them in good order.
    5. It is a shame to regret the deeds one has failed to accomplish in life.
    6. Changing perspective leads to success.
    7. Once one has seen all there is to see around oneself and determined an appropriate course of action, it is wise then to take action.
    8. Do not give up.
    9. Do not complain.
    10. Do NOT stay up all night playing!

I don't need to invent new ones, the ten messages inscribed on the Georgia Guidestones sound pretty reasonable to me.

Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.
