The older brother effect

That's interesting, I've never heard of that before. Personally, I have an older brother and sister, and both are quite straight. In fact, nobody in my life is anything but straight, heh.

I can kind of see how that might happen, though. Being a younger brother myself, I really look up to my bro, and a lot of his tastes rubbed off on me.

 

I read a report that it was the other way around, that the more older brothers you have, the more likely you are to be gay.

 

Dave has two older (str8) brothers, so it could fit there.

However I'm the oldest of two. I'm gay and my sister is str8.

With anything like this, just because something is statistically more likely, doesn't mean it will happen in any individual case. Statistical research, if done properly, is based on samples of large numbers of people selected at random and just shows an average or a trend.

A lot of this sort of research though is based on a small sample of hundreds or a couple of thousand people, sometimes even selected to give the desired result.

im the oldest brother in my family and my 2 younger ones arent gay i think. my 13yo brother has a girl friend and my 10yo brother hasnt but i suppose he is to young yet

I heard about this from my old stepmom about a year ago, I thought she was just trying to start something with me. I'm only five minutes older than my twin brother, but I'm still the oldest and let me tell you, he's not Gay. Call it twin intuition or the fact that I found all girl porn under his bed and on the family computer, but he's not gay. I think it's a bunch of crap.

I don't know if the more older brothers you have, the more likely you are to be gay is "absolutely truth" though...

I heard it that way too...I am the oldest. I have two younger brothers. One is married and has three kids and the other is 15yrs.-old and has a girlfriend. Both are totally accepting my being gay!!!

I am an only child so I don't know. I am pretty sure, though, that I am the only non-straight one in the family.

I don't think my older brothers would accept me. One's :dry: homophobic, the other is really influenced by the other.

Do you think you could come out to the one who is only influenced by the other, because you could change his mind and help him see that gays are not bad people. He could also be an ally for when you came out to others...just a thought!:icon_wink :icon_wink

 

i have one older brother and i am the youngest. i dont really believe that thing... the only older brother effect i think is trying to live up to there stuff and that... so far im not doing too good lol valvictorian is not for me :dry:

 

I have one older brother who's straight. I think this is a load of crock, honestly.

 

I'm the oldest one, and my 23 yerar old sisterm seemed used to be bisexual, but she change, does the older brother rule thingi apply to sister too?
