How does everyone here manage to find some motivation to get anything done? Do you watch motivational vids on youtube? Listen to a certain type of music? Imagine yourself where you want to be? Read books? What is it that you do to get motivated?
It honestly depends on what the task is. If it's moving ahead with the big plans in life, I picture where I want to be years from now. If it's something small like getting the lawn work done then I picture it as disciplining myself to take life's unpleasantries.
For school, I think about failing and having to take the course again. Then for things like work and chores and stuff, I know what I'm expected to do, so I do it well or else I'll be dragging others down.
"I will not be useless!" "I will not be a crybaby!" "I will not let another tell me how to feel/live." Humor can help set me in the right direction, so I might say: "Hitler had a girlfriend -- are you less than him?" "Your curves are as stubborn as you, which is why they're late." "What's more terrifying than a Valkyrie with a Viking beard? Mm." But the most important hardest part is putting that desire into action. You have to force yourself, at least initially. If you don't feel like tackling a writing project, rearrange your bathroom. If you don't feel like doing push-us, log online and give somebody a random message of love and encouragement. Just do something that generates a response, even if it's just a sensation of pride or joy. Acknowledging that will, over time, build up a plethora of confidence. And that'll provide you with all the motivation you need. It will also put you into a routine, and from there you should have a better idea of what to do and where to go. Seeing the little things add up, while slower, tends to provide the biggest accomplishments. It's divine seeing a plan come together. <3
It depends what it is I am trying to do. For example at work, when I have a lot to do, I find that starting with something that I can do relatively quickly helps me to build and/or keep motivated to also tackle the things that could take longer to complete. Having a list of things I need to do on a day and then checking the items off one by one helps me too. When I'm trying to continue writing/working on the piece I'm working on at the moment, I find that reading a short story or starting to read a novel will help me to get back to writing. Other times, taking a break and going for a walk or just doing something else for a while, including listening to music, helps me to find renewed motivation.
I think of brave men like Ulysses S. Grant and George Patton, I think of bravery, the love of my family, and my own life desires; I get motivated by alot of things.
Hmmmm... Anxiety is probably a big motivator. I think I am very scared of ever failing, at anything. I know that's not healthy... For school, I often break my work into smaller tasks and write a list of what needs to be done. I get some sort of satisfaction and sense of accomplishment when I get to cross things off that list.
Just FUCKIN DO IT. GAWD. Attatch epic/heroic/righteous meaning to a task and KICK THE SHIT OUT OF IT.
I got an internal general Patton shouting at me the worst insults you can imagine. There is nothing like anger to move heavy furniture around.
Usually spending a day procrastinating when I have a shit ton to do makes me antsy enough that I start early the next day
Coffee! Super strong from my percolator as I use three times more than recomended, oh Starbucks Bold Blends best! June
Grant always comes by and shouts at me when I am stuck in the middle of writing and can't think of anything to type; it's annoying and funny at the same time.
